Re: $500 per year to Shave

I'm in the safety razor camp. The initial start-up cost is more expensive, but the shave is better than anything I've experienced. Anybody with sensitive skin or anybody who gets razor burn a lot should try this system. Razors are maybe $5.00 for a 10-pack of quality Merkur razors and they last at least a month or 16-20 shaves. Very good investment.

I know that DE shaving requires some startup money: a brush, around a $30 razor. In creme/aftershave I probably spend $75/year for decent products.
Same here. My favorite blades are Feather but they only last about a week.

Its humanly IMPOSSIBLE to spend $500 per year.

I shave with both an electric and then a regular razor and I dont spend over $100 per year, and I have a fairly heavy beard.

I can't remember for sure but I think I've had the same electric razor for about 10 years. It might be my second, but both were $30 or less. Never done a real shave.

Electric razor for the win. Sorry I'm a lazy college student.

I'm trying to figure out how you would even spend 500 dollars shaving. A new blade like every two days...

A 15 pack of Mach 3's at the store cost about $40. So let's say you use 4 15 packs a year. That would be about $160. A stupid amount of money but not $500.

I guess maybe if you got a shave at a barber maybe.

Since we are just brainstorming on how to spend over $500 on shaving, what about having a barber do it? Let's say you get a shave at the barber for $15 (I really don't know how much a shave would be) every week. So that would be 15 x 52 = 780.

Re: $500 per year to Shave

I go a few weeks between shaves. So put me in the bringing down the curve group. Although I am thinking of doing the DE razor. It just looks cool!

It's cool but be warned that can become kind of addictive. I have 4 different razors, a couple of brushes, and a bunch of different pucks. The good thing is that the blades themselves are dirt cheap. The other good thing is that some of the cheapest razors are the best. My go to razor is the basic Merkur 34c and I use it 90% of the time. Technique is about 90%.

Re: $500 per year to Shave

Been using Good News disposables for years. They last me about a month each. You gotta make sure you rinse them good and get all the gunk out from between the blades each time you shave or they will rust. I used to shave daily or at most every other day when working. I find being a retiree I only shave about 2 or 3 times a week. I figure I spend maybe $40 a year all told.

No matter what, I could NEVER cheer for Dirt and Urine.
