Maybe turning the corner this year means....

Not letting one loss turn into three or four. Last year's Texas game was awful, so we turned around and went to Waco and.... looked almost as bad against that putrid defense. Then we went to play what looked like a beatable team in Missouri and... let's not talk about that. Things finally started to look up when we got A&M at home, but we still ended up losing that game.

Obviously that coincided with Barnett being put in, but that doesn't necessarily mean Barnett is the answer this time. My hope is that we don't wait three more games to figure out what we can change to win, whatever shape that may take. Sure, we can talk about Jantz or the offensive line or other specific players, but the bigger question here is for the coaching staff: are these coaches ready to adapt to their players and their opponents to win more conference games?

Right now, it's easy to envision a continued slide against some stiff competition with @TCU, K-State, @Oklahoma State, and Baylor on the docket, but it doesn't have to be that way. The goal should still be four or more conference wins, and it's still very doable with 8 winnable games left on the schedule. Win two or more of the next four games and I think we can look forward hoping for more than 6 wins every year.

Great post! I couldn't agree with you more. This was one loss, and despite the disastrous offensive performance, I thought we were much better than we were last year against Texas, and I'd put Tech at the same level Texas was last season when we played them. At this time I encourage all Cyclone fans to keep the faith. If we fired our coaches every time some of us want to, I think the only one we'd have left in Ames would be Troy Douglas, and he hasn't been here long enough to get really upset with. I fully agree and have wanted to post something similar. The loss is frustrating but the key is hopefully changes will be made sooner this year than last year so we don't lose some winnable games by keeping Steele in until deep into the season.

7-5 would be a massive improvement and "turning the corner" this year to me even though it doesn't sound flashy. TCU and WVU are better than A&M and Mizzou. TCU is better than either defensively and WVU is on another planet than either of them on offense.

If we're 7-5 we'll have probably beaten 2-3 ranked teams and only lost to ranked or near ranked teams.

Re: Maybe turning the corner this year means....

Great post..The true test will be in our coaches making the adjustments from weaker non conference opponents to much stronger conference opponents. We have the D to contend with these teams we just need a competent, not amazing offense. As bad as it sounds I think if we only turn the ball over once a game we win 50% of the remaining games. That's how much faith I have in our D. When they start faltering is when they have little to no time to rest due to a turnover or 3 and out and a very small amount of field to defend... I trust that CPR is quite aware of this and have faith he is trying everything to correct these problems. This season I believe is pivotal when talking about what direction this program is heading.

I couldn't agree more. I kept thinking after the game that we need to not let one loss turn into 2.. and especially not 3 or 4. This defense is good enough to keep us in a lot of games. Just have to hope we figure it out on offense.

Turning the corner for me means not getting blown out a few times a year, and winning at least 6 games.

Very possible. It was a nasty game, but it's over now.
No reason that we can't win this one on Saturday.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

Re: Maybe turning the corner this year means....

Turning the corner means being in every game and winning our share of close games. It means no 3+ game losing streaks. That takes shaking off bad losses like this one. It means getting some wins against teams we haven't beat for a while. I think we can be there this year. Go State!
