He's a turnover machine who can't take care of the ball. No, I don't think Jb would be much better. This sucks.

I hope Sage comes in and gets a job as a QB coach next season...then in the future move him into OC.

Do you know what TCU is going to do to our offensive line with the speed they have. Tech's defnese is crap compared to them.

I think the problem is that ISU can't recruit the players to run the spread. Cyclones need to go back to basics and run what's been successful before--smash-mouth football. ISU is a Big Ten style team in the Big12: run first, stout defense.

The offensive scheme has been horrible not just all season, and not just under CPR's tenure, but for as long as I can remember.

Jantz was bad tonight, but I don't think another QB does any better.
This says everything. The O as a whole was just horrible tonight, except for one drive in 2nd half.. 6 points. Not all Jantz, but he certainly didn't play well. I don't have much confidence in the kicking game either.

Who does the OC have to work with? A field general who generally just drops the ball with no contact.

You think the offense is structured to contain the errors of Jantz? I do. We'll just keep putting the blame on Herman and Mess though because it allows the Jantz aura to remain bright.

Re: ***Official Bench Steele Jantz thread***

Steele made some bad decisions, but the offensive line was hanging him and our RB's out to dry all night. Our OL got badly dominated by Tech all night. Combine that with the fact that they got their run and short pass game going in the 2nd half, and got some lucky bounces all game(Fumble forced on Doege recovered by lineman, RB fumbled and it bounced directly back into his hands, Brun fumble after getting drilled), and you have a 24-13 loss. We need better OL protection for Steele, and better blocks for opening up the run game. Our offense is predicated on using the run game to open up the passing game, and we didn't do that tonight. If Steele isn't running for his life he doesn't drop that last ball in the first place, although I agree he should have better ball security than that.

Barnett is a better runner, and can run the zone read better, but his arm strength is much worse. Don't forget that Barnett was also turnover prone and ineffective against the powerhouse defense of Western Illinois. I'd like an upgrade on what we have, but it's just not there right now. The backup is always the most popular person the team...

Re: ***Official Bench Steele Jantz thread***

I understand that Jantz might be the best we have...but I'd still like for that to be proven in a game situation. Especially when Jantz looked as bad as he did tonight. JB may not be great, but he was the spark we needed a season ago. If they are worse, then I'm on board for keeping Jantz at starter, but prove the others can't do it first.
