    Callahan Not Leaving

If Nebraska interim athletic director Tom Osborne wants Bill Callahan out as football coach, he'll probably have to fire him.

Callahan said Tuesday he would not resign before the season ends, even if he were offered a buyout worth more than he is entitled to by his contract.

Osborne has not asked for a resignation and doesn't plan to, athletic department communications chief Randy York said Tuesday. Osborne has said he'll evaluate Callahan at the end of the season.

Callahan said he won't leave on his own volition, even if it means relieving pressure on himself, his staff and their families.

Callahan said he wants to finish his career at Nebraska.

Sounds like Bill thinks he is still doing an excellent job.

    Re: Callahan Not Leaving

For what its worth - Omaha channel 3 tonight reported that "a source close to the team" told their sportscaster that Callahan told the team, today, that he has been asked to resign, and that he refused. This may be something new or it may be the explanation to the team of the Tuesday story, or it may be nothing.

Their recruits have to be vulnerable -
    Go get'm, Gene.

It's clear no one wants him there - in a bad way. Yet he's too arrogant to step down.

    Re: Callahan Not Leaving

It all is a game to get the best terms out of what is left in his contract. NU cannot fire him without paying him off, but if he were to resign, they would not have to pay him. They must not have offered him his full package if he resigned, otherwise he is killing his chance at ever landing a coaching job again.

    Re: Callahan Not Leaving

I don't mind a guy going down fighting. It's kind of the way I look at life also. You don't want me, fire me. I am not going to quit. I have told my kids to never quit anything. I am sure he has told his team never to quit. What would it say about him if he quits?

On the other hand the guy is clearly out of his league. I don't think you take the Nebraska job without knowing what NU is all about.

    Re: Callahan Not Leaving

Well, seeing how he said he won't resign even if they offer him more money than what his contract states...I don't think it's a money issue. But that's just me...

Or, it is a money thing and he's trying to get even more in a buyout. I don't see that happening. He plays hardball, so does NU.

    Can him.

Probally wants to be let go rather than to leave himself.... or maybe he's trying to get better terms with a bunch of talk I dunno. Either way he'd be wise never to step foot in that state again

Guys, he just got an extension on his contract. Of course he's going to milk this situation as much as he can.

I can see it now...Callahan walking around the NU facilities and passing out a few of his patented "throat slash" gestures to anyone who makes eye contact. As far as I'm concerned, he can stay as long as he likes!
