    IPod question

Is there a way to get songs off of an IPod back onto a computer? I deleted a bunch of albums off ITunes I don't listen to anymore, and that ended up being a bad idea. My concern is that usually when you plug an IPod in, it will automatically update itself based on Itunes. Will it delete the files on the IPod? I'm using a Mac by the way.

    Re: IPod question

You can set the Itunes up to not auto update. However, I have found no way to get music from my ipod into Itunes.

    Re: IPod question

Either one of these two should help you. There is also programs out there you can buy that will do it from Best Buy or such, but you can do it with out the program. It is just a matter of making the files visible from invisible. You need to go into Itunes on you computer and turn off the auto update prior to plugging your Ipod in though.

    Re: IPod question

One of my roommates had that very same problem a week ago, and this is what I told him to use, based on a recommendation from one of my friends up at UNI:

iDump - Reviews and free iDump downloads at Download.com

This is spectacular, as you can then take any iPod and plug it in and get music from anybody. I can guarantee that it works.

(Oh, and read the first comment--a great tip!)

    Re: IPod question

I haven't read through the attached links, but first you have to view hidden files and folders (it's in Tools - Options - View tab). There's usually then an iPod Control folder (I think that's the name of it) in there - browse to it from "Add Songs to My Library" in iTunes. The songs are usually divided amongst a ton of individual folders. What kind of sucks is that, if you have songs that have been converted to the .m4p standard format of iTunes OR if you bought them off of iTunes, the file names are really non-descript. You kind of just have to grab all of them and add them to your library.

Edit - never mind, just saw that you're using a Mac. I've got nothing for you... sorry about that!

    Re: IPod question

Ok, I'm going to make this a little more difficult for the tech junkies...

I've got the original ipod, but it's formatted for a mac laptop. I just bought an HP laptop and would like to take my 2500 songs from my ipod and put them on my hp.

    Any suggestions?
