Will Ejim be better this year?

So do we expect to see a big improvement from Ejim this year, what with his Olympic experience and whatnot?

I didn't think he got any real "Olympic experience"...wasn't he cut from the team before the games even started?

I think he'll continue to do what he does best, and thats play defense, get rebounds and be a hustle guy. Ejim is never going to be a consistent 15+ points per night guy, but I think he can contribute 8-9ppg and 8 rbg which would be great. He's a consistent double double thats for sure.

Guess I kinda missed out. Didn't he go spend time practicing with team Nigeria? Maybe that doesn't mean anything.

It probably doesn't mean much. He'll certainly be incrementally better. Handle and shooting being the biggest holes in his game. Besides having 10 thumbs, of course.

Re: Will Ejim be better this year?

I think his production may increase a little this year. He will average 10 ppg and 8 rpg this year. He will play strictly the PF playing 25 mpg. Even for the 2013-14 season I don't think he will play SF at all. He can't shoot or dribble that well which SF's need to be able to do well. He is probably the most underrated player on the team that no one talks about.

If he's worked on ball handling/passing he could make a major step-up. The kid is strong, just needs refinement in those areas.

Re: Will Ejim be better this year?

I think he will. He's gotten better each year, and he's already a solid, proven player. His stats may not show it this year because he'll do whatever the team needs, but it wouldn't surprise me if he jumps to 15-18 a game next year.

Re: Will Ejim be better this year?

It would have helped his game if he had made the team. Playing SG in the Olympics might have helped round out his game a little more. But assuming hes been working with Fred on shooting, I would imagine he will be improved this year.

I think he's probably our best player, and I'm expecting at least Third Team All-Conference.

Ummm.... what? If Ejim is our best player, I'm scared. I'm hoping Clyburn is much better than him, and hopefully Babb and Lucious step up their game too. Just cause he's a 3rd year starter doesn't mean he is great, just means he filled holes the first two seasons.

Ejim has been just awesome at being consistent and quietly scoring 12-18 points. I think he is what keeps us going honestly.

Re: Will Ejim be better this year?

The improvement I saw in Ejim as last season wore on was more consistent rebounding, both O & D, better D with less fouling, and a more consistent 8-12 ft J. He will likely never be a consistent 3 shooter, but that quick jumper became a weapon on O along with putbacks. The thought of him playing the 3 and trying to put the ball on the floor and guard in space does give me pause though! Having a true point guard should get him some easy layups in space.

If you ask the basketball analysts outside the state of Iowa I think you would be surprised to hear their responses. Iowa was pegged as a preseason top 5 team by one ESPN analyst and is ranked in the vast, vast majority of preseason top 25 polls
