I got an egg timer and some measuring cups when I was there last time. You can always find something.

    Re: Ikea to Kansas City

My wife has driven to the Frisco store 2 different times with friends for a weekend getaway (5 hours from us), and this past July we went to the Orlando store so I could see what the fuss was all about. I can see the draw to the place, (and lunch was really pretty good) but 5 hours for a place is pretty bad. KC we can do in 3-4, so if we are still here in 2014 I am sure we will be making the trip.

    Re: Ikea to Kansas City

We've gotten some decent stuff from the Minneapolis store when my wife and I have been up visiting family, but I can't see driving 4-5 hours to get there and having IKEA be the whole point of the trip.

Just to get ahead of it. No, there is no IKEA coming to Des Moines soon. Unless they change their business model, DM metro is not big enough.

It's pretty much true though. It's not like there is an abundance of cheap hardwood overgrowing Sweden. It's all made of the same cheap materials as Wal-Mart or Target furniture. They just know how to style their showroom better. Appearance makes the entire store.

Is it the world's highest quality furniture? No. But as somebody who is only 3.5 years out of college and thus has an abundance of IKEA and Wal-Mart/Target furniture in their home, the IKEA stuff holds up and looks WAY better than than the cheap-o Target specials.
