    Re: Blum: The Next Hurdle

Yet when Rhoads stepped to the podium, the tenor of the convention hall switched from jovial to determined. It was 10 days before the home opener with Tulsa and Rhoads had the look of a man that was gearing up for something significant. In the entirely of his 30 minute speech, there was no smile and no teleprompter. He had command of the room with tenacious, raw emotion:

"I came here to build a championship program. Three wins in the Big 12 conference in our first three years might have been right for what we had. But it's NOT what we aspire to achieve."
    god i love CPR

nice read has me pretty fired up... wish I could see ya at the Jack but it'll have to wait until TCU

Another good article Blum. I am worried about this game and our Offense. hopefully, Woody is back for the red zone and we have improved over the bye week.

    Re: Blum: The Next Hurdle

The growth of the Cyclone program is evident, it's just a matter of clearing the next hurdle. In order to be persistently successful, Iowa State has to protect its home field. The atmosphere during the Oklahoma State game in 2011 can't be an anomaly, it needs to be the norm. Hilton Magic could use a cousin.
Any suggestions as to what we call this?

Brent, one of these days you are going to write something that is simply average and we are all going to be disappointed. You are going to be a victim of your own excellence.

Once again, today is not that day. It would be easy to coast when Rhoads provides so much awesome material on his own. You didn't. Nice work.

Blum- Between your writing and the quotes from CPR Im ready to take the field!!

LEts be honest we are all better off if I just cheer my butt off instead.

“It’s beyond pride. It’s a restored trust. There’s a confidence again, a passion that teeters on swagger. More than anything, (Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads) has restored the Iowa State “it” factor, the steadfast belief that it is great to be a Cyclone...the man’s enthusiasm is genuine to the core...”

    Re: Blum: The Next Hurdle

Good read. My honest observation: People think (because I keep reading it) Tech took ISU lightly last season after Tech's big win in Norman, but I don't think that was the case. I believe, and it's from what I've heard, that for some inexplicable reason, Glasgow (and some other coaches) totally lost the players after berating them in the locker room after the game. Instead of letting them celebrate for a couple of hours, the players got berated. From that moment on, Glasgow lost the players.

Where was Tubs when this went on? Who knows? Maybe he was there, maybe he was in an office? Maybe he was getting ready for the post game? Nobody really knows.

I don't believe Tubs would've just stood by, and let it happen. There was a rift with Tubs, and Glasgow, too.

After OU, whatever chemistry that was built up, was gone within a few hours.

ISU has a game @TCU the week after, and Tech plays OU @ home. So, both teams play big games against ranked opponents the week after this game.

It'll be interesting where the focus is for both teams.

    Re: Blum: The Next Hurdle

Maybe its from getting kicked in the nuts countless times over the years when we have a "program changing" game but I'm nervous about this game. I think the defense if ready for it but as mentioned, our offense is not established. The pieces are there I think but not sure if Steele can make the right decisions in the offense. Hopefully having the off week will allow it to get on track. CPR mentioned how well the last 2 weeks have gone and how the atmosphere of the practice matched the way it did the week before the OSU game last year so maybe that is a sign we're ready for the next step. That said, I would love to eat crow......

Yea, we need this one. More than Tech does in my opinion and I believe that's why we're getting testy with our visitors and not acknowledging how tough this game might be. There's no easy stat for the streak that's in play here. It's not like the road losing streak, conference losing streak, or ranked opponent losing streak. I guess you could call it the "momentum game" losing streak. We've lost these games for as long as I can remember and it needs to end. Rhoads knows it and I get the impression that the leaders on this team (AJ, Knott, J. White, etc.) know it too. I expect laser focus out of this team on Saturday, I really do.
