    Worst Coach of all time

SIAP, saw this on eye-bleach-er report (link in a story elsewhere). Worst coach of every BCS school. One time I can agree with the eye-bleach, although they're still completely worthless for doing a 68 page slide show (thankfully I can link to the right page):

B-Report gets a lot of flak -- "deserved" in many cases — but I admit, I never considered pondering this topic at all.

    Could be an interesting read.

I don't know. While The Chiz deserves a mention, Jim Walden has a special place in my heart in regards to said topic.

Chizik and Walden were bad, but to me, I think Criner was the worst. Maybe not record wise, but he cheated and still could not win. Set the program back considerably with his cheating.

When your best play is an onside kick or fake punt, you are in trouble. Walden hands down.

Hey now! Pony shoes would be nothing today without Walden's endorsement!

Chiz was terrible, however I expected to see Walden there. I was a student when he was a coach, where fans successfully predicted his offensive calls: up the middle, up the middle, up the middle, punt.

I would have to agree with FDCy83. My vote would have to be for Criner

Re: Worst Coach of all time

Need to understand the history of why we had Walden in the first place and why he had nothing (I still don't believe he was a good coach at all) and the answer to why we were so bad during the Walden era falls on CRINER.

Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.

Re: Worst Coach of all time

I understand why people would say Criner and/or Walden - their tenures were bad. I just think Chizik was worse. At least Criner and Walden tried to win here (cheating, to an extent, is trying). Chizik used his opportunity at ISU to make good on a promise to his best friends that if he ever became head coach that he would hire them as OC and DC. Would he have ever done that a name school? No - he didn't do it at Auburn. But ISU? Who cares about them.

I think the true terribleness of Chizik gets tempered because he was only here for 2 years and CPR turned this program so quickly. However, I think that's more of ashow of how good of a coach CPR is and not that we've overestimated how bad Chizik is. I mean, after all, Chizik owns the worst winning percentage (perhaps we should say the best losing percentage) in the history of ISU Football, and it has only taken him what - 3, 4 years? to take the Ferrari that was Auburn's football program and run it straight into a telephone pole. The guy is nothing without quality assistant coaches.

Re: Worst Coach of all time

    Criner by far

There is an argument that can be made that Walden was as good or better than McCarney TBH. People have selective memories. Walden did a lot of good things before he gave up due to no administration support.

Speaking of which, Herbstreit just slobbered Chizik's knob on Gameday. Talk about a guy without a clue.

Re: Worst Coach of all time

Statistically, WF Finney never won a game at ISU under his tenure as coach in 1893. Second worst ever..... Gene Chizik with a winning record of 0.208..... With a little better budget than Finney.

Re: Worst Coach of all time

Walden had zero support. It was pathetic actually. How the leadership at ISU was so short sided to not put resources into football at that time is beyond me. They cost us a whole generation of fans, lost to the dark side. Anyway, Walden was a decent coach with no money to pay for quality assistant coaches or to keep them here. His offenses, before the the triple option were pretty good. Heck, his triple option was pretty good too. His special teams were top notch.
