    IPhone 5 (Verizon)

I am due for an update on my phone at the end of this month. I am looking into getting the Iphone 5, i have never owned a smart phone so i do have some questions i was hopeing Verizon customers could help me with. Is it an additional $30.00 a month for internet? Cost on insurance? and should i get a 16 or 32 gb and does anyone know the price difference on those? Sorry i don't know much, thanks for any help!

I use my phone quite a bit, and have only needed the 16 gb. So much stuff can be accessed off the cloud that you don't need a whole ton of storage.

Minutes cost + Data package (minimum $30 I believe) + (optional) messaging + taxes = your bill I believe (good luck keeping it under $100/month if you're on a plan by yourself).

For most people a 16GB is plenty. If you have a large music library and want to use it as a music player as well then the 32GB will be what you want.

I have like 1000 songs on my 16 gig and still have about 4 gigs to spare after everything. You can take off and put on music as you please.

    Re: IPhone 5 (Verizon)

The Verizon plans are all set up to benefit the family now. For individuals, it really sucks, imo.

I don't know what their prices on the iphone is, haven't looked that up. The only reason you would need a 32 gig though, is if you wanted to keep movies on it as well. I've got plenty of space on my 16 gig for music and apps, but movies usually run about 1or 2 Gigs each and eat up space. I have a 32 gig iPod touch and it's a struggle to get it full without throwing a crap ton of movies on there.

It's a share everything plan now, so really, imo, if you are a single user, I'd look somewhere else. Verizon is really ripping people off right now. For my wife and I it works OK. We have unlimited talk and text and 4 Gigs of data, but that comes at a pretty healthy cost $40/phone/month + $70 for the Data. $150, so really not bad for us, since before the share plans, we'd have been at $160/month total, plus having to pay for text and calling at that price.

For a single though, it's going to be $40 for your phone, + at least $50 for the cheapest data plan. My wife and I rarely hit the 4 gigs, but all it takes is one of our kids to decide to watch netflix and boom, there goes the data. And honestly, $20 for an extra 3 Gigs just gives me peace of mind of not going over.

That being said, I think in the end, all the iPhone carriers seem to be the same price, maybe less for data, but more for phone. I shopped around quite a bit when I got my iphone and in the end, you are only saving a dollar here or there depending on who the carrier is.

Also, unless you are a big Apple guy, don't get me wrong, I like my iPhone, but I'd really consider the Galaxy IIIs. That's what my wife has and to be honest, I wish my iPhone 4s was that nice. If it wasn't for work and already having all apple stuff for my personal use as well and owning a million apps already, I probably would have went with the Galaxy.

Other than that, I am very happy with Verizon though. I've never had a problem with their service and I've been a customer since they came to the Chicago area.

As someone else said, it will be struggle to keep your bill under $100. Our cell bill is outrageous even with my wife's 25% employee discount! 16gb should be enough. I have more music than that but I juggle it around a bit.

I've had both iPhone and Android. Liked them both pretty equally, except the iPhone has superior battery life. Thinking about going back to Android next time though, the Samsung phones are supposed to be pretty sweet.

Not trying to flame, but might I suggest the galaxy s3. I believe it to be the better of the two.

Yeah, I'm up for an upgrade but think I will either buy a phone at full price or switch to Sprint.

Over the past 6 months I've averaged 3.5 GBs of data so I really don't want to lose my unlimited. If I were to upgrade my monthly price would be around $110 compared to the $70 I'm paying now.

I would agree with you. Our family has both. The only thing is if you are a big iTunes purchaser as I am. My kids have iPads, I've owned a Touch for years, so I have hundreds of dollars in apps and movies that I can't use on the Galaxy. So in a way, apple has suckered me in. My wife on the other hand wasn't concerned about all that as she uses PC mostly. I do like the Galaxy and if it wouldn't have been for all the apps I already had, I probably would have went with the Galaxy myself. It's a really nice phone.

The only thing stopping me from getting this is how huge it is. That's probably a plus for some, but I'd like it to fit comfortably in a pocket. Seems like you need to carry around a murse for that monster.

If you're just getting started with smart phones and are not an "apple guy" already, go with the Galaxy.

ps. My droid bill is $85 per month with the data plan. Not sure if Apple plans are more expensive (wouldn't surprise me) or if my plan is just so old it's still cheap. :P

So old it's still cheap, you are grandfathered in. All plans are the same, no matter what phone. At least with Verizon. Now the only difference is the Actual cost of your phone and the Data plan you want.

My girlfriend has just an LG Rhyme with 2GB data and the minimum minutes and her Verizon bill is ~$100/month. I'm fairly sure you have to pay extra to add a text messaging plan on as well with the iPhone.
