I have a hard time siding with the NFL refs.

Infact I take the NFL's side in this and dont feel sorry for the refs at all.

    - NFL refs are part time workers that make around 150-200k.

    - What part time jobs gives a full pension and 401k? Sorry but thats bull.

    - The NFL would like to improve officiating, and that means adding officials and creating a performance based assignment method. So if you're no good you work less games. - Sorry but agree with the NFL on this one also. If you suck you shouldn't be protected by the union.

I don't care two ***** about the money involved. The replacement refs are the worst ******* people in the world. They are terrible, every single one of them. They should all be relegated to 7th grade football for the rest of their miserable lives.

And on top of that the NFL has the balls to issue an ultimatum to coaches that they will be penalized and fined for yelling at the horrible excuses for professional referees because they need to "have respect for the game", which is the last thing the NFL is doing by trotting out these worthless zebras.

Wait where are you getting that $150k to $200k? This has them between $25k to $70k. Highest-Paid NFL Referees – Average Salary of an NFL Referee ‹ The Richest People In The World 2012

Based on the ****** product they've had on the field the first two weeks I'd say the real refs deserve twice what they got previously.

You will watch and complain if the refs suck, which is why the NFL has all the power. Nobody is turning their TVs off because of it, just watching and ********. And that doesn't hurt ratings and doesn't hurt profits. If it did, they would get the real refs back. That is all there is to be said.

I understand that, I don't expect the NFL to back down. Their cashflow is no longer tied to the quality of the product, their fanbase is fully entrenched.

Well they will until there is a riot or fight on the field or stadium because of some BS call. Then they might have some big lawsuits. Yeah the refs are asking for more but in the grand scheme of things their salaries are tiddlywinks to players or coaches.

    1. That polo Chizik is wearing above is one of the ugliest ISU polos I have ever seen. Glad they only lasted one season.

    2. I agree with Rhoadhoused here. Until fans start turning off the TV, the NFL will continue as they are. They're still pulling great ratings and therefore still making a ton of money off the fans who are watching games controlled by horrible officials.

Deadspin put together this series of 28 ridiculous calls (and non-calls) by officials just from Week 2 games. Worth a watch: They're Getting Worse, Not Better: Here Are The 28 Worst Replacement Official Mistakes From Week 2

Wow. Those are pretty bad and just demonstrate how underappriciated the real refs are.

Are they as good as the previous refs ? no

But consider this. If they were not here we would be spending Sundays watching Law and Order marathons. I'm surprised they gat anyone on that short of notice.

I rarely agree with striking unions and I would laugh my arse off if these guys improved quickly and the nfl told the old ones to take a walk.
