    Ref review

got pretty bad towards the end of the game.

Not sure about what everyone thinks but they missed a HUGE hold from WIU's offensive line in 4th.
Does anyone know for sure why we got the 15 yarder after Kirby's punt in the 4th and the WIU got blown up on coverage?

    Re: Ref review

When a team is getting slaughtered like WIU last night the refs usually let a lot of stuff go from the other team. Granted they should have gotten that holding call. Anything that obvious needs to be flagged regardless. In the highlights from the game the play in question the reciever gets hit in the head with the defenders hands.

I noticed on both sides of the ball the refs missing things. I thought it was a bad officiated game overall. Even some of the ball spot on both sides where horrid imo,

    Re: Ref review

My thoughts on the penalty after the huge hit on the punt return were that he must've said something after the play. Wasn't it called an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and not a personal foul? The flag came in really late too so it's not hard to believe he said something stupid the ref hear after the hit...

    Re: Ref review

How about when they called Shontrelle down, but based on the quick replay we saw on cyclones.tv, his knees never touched. Made a solid, athletic play and had a potentially huge run taken away. Luckily, I think it was the play right before Kirby's punt that was downed at the one.

Walters and Heft weren't sure if Lynn was penalized for something he said, or for not giving the receiver a 1-yard window to catch the ball. Replay showed Lynn was easily 2-3 yards away when the catch was made, but the radio guys weren't sure what the flag was for. Did seem to be thrown late enough to be for saying something unsportsmanlike.

Bad, bad, bad refs. It seemed as though the refs had a vested interest in the final score of the game and it sure wasn't because of a bet on ISU!

    Re: Ref review

They wouldn't of called unsportsmanlike penalty for a being in the bubble. It obviously had to be a player saying something away from the ball. My question is why the heck would the ref feel the need to call that penalty? He wasn't taunting the player or wasn't anywhere near him, he was running off the field with his teammates. These refs were terrible and blew a couple major calls as well.

    Re: Ref review

The ref announced the call as unsportsmanlike conduct. The back judge threw the flag after a bunch of our players ran past him while celebrating, I'm assuming one of them must have said something. It better have been something pretty bad to warrant a call like that, because it looked like a stupid call otherwise.

The missed holding call was pretty blatant. The lineman for WIU had our defensive lineman held by the jersey from behind in plain sight while he was rushing the QB. The ref was staring right at him. I don't recall WIU being penalized for holding all game long (maybe they did), pretty surprising they were able to hold back our defensive line and linebackers as cleanly as they did.

The other call that irked me was when our receiver caught the pass along the sideline on a 3rd and long late in the game, think it was Albert Gary. He obviously had a foot down in bounds and appeared to control the ball all the way to the ground. It would have been good for a first down.

I also didn't see the reason for the penalty on the PR for TD when watching the replay.

    Re: Ref review

We most likely got the worst refs in the Big 12 because it wasn't a big game. They still were worse than the replacement refs

Where they even Big 12 refs? Typically the away team gets to bring their officials on matchups with out of conference opponents. So did we get MVC refs? They have as much class as Mark Farley, maybe more hair.

    Re: Ref review

On the play Shontrelle was called down, it seemed like the whistle blew before he even hit the ground. The ref just anticipated the tackle and blew it early before he actually saw if he was down or not. At that point the play was dead and there was nothing they could do. They were pretty bad spotting the ball all game. It was a crap shoot where they would mark it +/- 1 yard of where it should have been.

    Re: Ref review

I also think the refs missed a big hold on the long touchdown run early in the 1st quarter. I'm not complaining but I saw it clear as day.

Definitely weren't the best refs in the land. Hopefully we get some better crews for conference play.

    Re: Ref review

On the quick replay on the jumbotron, it looked like Shontrelle's elbow touched down and his knees were awfully close. Couldn't tell for sure but I think it was the right call. Also, like someone mentioned, the whistle blew so the play was dead and a review would have changed nothing...
...but that 4th quarter hold is a completely different story.
