CY-Hawk game more historic than meets the eye?

Just saw this stat on the Big XII blog:

Big 12 did you know: Week 3 - Big 12 Blog - ESPN

Iowa State held Iowa without a touchdown in Iowa City last week. The last time Iowa didn't score a touchdown at home: 1978.
All I have to say is...WOW. I know it was an ugly game, but to me that just shows how much CPR and the staff is really turning things around and making our team that much better.

Or is it as much about about how Ferentz has turned his team around and making it that much worse? Let's meet in the middle and say, both!

Remember, you're unique. Just like everyone else.

Until further notice, the Big 12 tournament is best. There's an experience here. Not just the teams -- the feel, the vibe, the establishments. Iowa State not only won the pregame -- filling the nearby Power & Light District -- it won the whole damn scene.

That number isn't right. 1978 was the last time ISU held Iowa w/o a TD in Iowa City. Arizona did it in 1980. And, without looking, it was probably done after that by a Big Ten opponent.

Still, even if it were limited to only ISU vs. EIU, Rhoads has us on the steady climb upwards. Nice to see all the accomplishments we've had with him at the helm (I will resist listing all of them, as most should know what they are anyhow).

With all the crap I had to endure growing up (surrounded by hok fans around the CR area)...it's a great time to be a CYCLONE!

I'm not sure how much credit to give our D and just how pathetic their offense is. I guess we'll know when we start conference play. And if Hawks can't get in end zone against UNI.

It was Iowa's first loss under Kirk Ferentz when they held a team to fewer than 10 points. Before Saturday, they were 33-0 in such games.

True, but we had to try REALLY hard to stay under 10 points so we could make that statistic. How many intentional turnovers in the red zone did we have to commit to do it?

Love 9-6 wins vs Iowa. Its aprophetic with W-L record in the last 15 as well. I predict a 16-0 win next year in Ames gives Iowa State a 16 year run in the rivlarly. Too bad Zable isn't likely to be around to witness it but Miller will no longer be able to say " roughly 2 games under .500" either

Ubben should have been more specific -- When I read it, I assumed he was talking specifically about ISU-Iowa series, not overall.

Even so, I hadn't realized the rarity of that stat in this series.

It fits nicely with my feeling that this year's team could be the best Iowa State team since '78 (and/or '00, whichever team fans assess as better).

Edit: Similar to '78/'00 -- both are possibly just beneath 2005.

With the way Iowa plays offense, does it really matter?

Not to mention shanking the XP on purpose.

"1978 was the last time ISU held Iowa w/o a TD in Iowa City."

I was at that game as a ISU freshman. My second college football game; and first experience seeing the Iowa State Iowa game. It was a blast!
