    Tailgating

Coming up from WIU to the game and for Tailgating. What should we expect and where should we park? Will arrive around 1 P.M.

    Re: Tailgating

Expect beautiful weather...lots of tailgaters...a good time to be had by all.

The tailgating around Jack trice is top notch. Lots open at 1 for the general public. There are public lots along south 16th street.

You'll want to get off US-30 at the Duff avenue exit and head North to South 16th st. Head west on S 16th and you will pass the majority of Public parking lots along the way. The best spot is right on the corner of S 16th and University in view of Jack Trice Stadium (lot G2 and G3 on the map below). You will most likely be able to get in if you arrive at 1pm. $20 to park a normal vehicle.

If you get there at 1, you will have an easy time finding a spot near the stadium.

    Re: Tailgating

Based on that map above, you can park in any of the "G" lots.
G2/G3 are the student lots and are really fun, full of good scenery, and hard partying. The other G lots are more laid back, family atmosphere, etc. But, still really fun. Public lots open at 1pm, donor lots open at 7am. Bring lots of food and beer.

    Re: Tailgating

Just a note - Club lots should open at 7am. I know this probably doesn't apply for the OP... but just in case anyone didn't know the opening time for the club lots. General public lots do open at 1pm. I plan on being there at 7am... gonna have to judiciously employ pacing practices.

    Per Cyclones.com Gameday Policies

"All paved and grass parking located north and east of Jack Trice Stadium is reserved for Cyclone Club members. For weekend games, Cyclone Club lots will open at 7:00 a.m. or 6 hours prior to kickoff, whichever is earlier.
General public parking is located in the grass areas south of Jack Trice Stadium along South 16th Street. Limited
parking is located around Hilton Coliseum. All general public parking lots open 6 hours prior to kickoff."

Should be plenty of public parking available at 1:00, I suggest parking by the Vet Med building, $20 to park and a paved surface, but plenty of grass spots as well for less cost. Tailgating at Jack Trice is second to none, have a great time, Cyclone fans are great people to party with.

G6 and G7 require parking passes.

    Re: Tailgating

Related question - this is my first year coming back with the family where the inlaws don't have a parking pass. We used to always just join them to tailgate. What's the best general public spot to park to give the kids a good Cyclone tailgating experience?

Young kids? G4, G5, G8 or the vet med lot. Vet med is cement the others are grass.
