Excellent as always my man. I can remember recovering from hangovers flipping by the ISU public access channel getting a chuckle out of whatever the sports show was you guys did.

I hope the Wizard is able to stick around for a long time. I am excited to see what this defense looks like once Shane and his dad sneak another JPP up here.

Great article, as usual. I actually hadn't heard that Iowa had never scored 6 points or less at home under KF, keep the good stuff coming.

    Re: Blum: Ultimate Grinder

"Dating back to the Texas Tech game last year, Iowa State has held its last eight opponents to 30 points or less in regulation: the only Big 12 school to have an active streak that long. During the stretch, the Cyclones held ... Oklahoma (26 points) and Oklahoma State (24) to their lowest regulation point totals of the conference season in 2011."

Overlooked details, probably because (1) OSU game went to 2OT so it seemed like a shootout; (2) ISU offense was shut down during OU loss, so it seems moot.

Don't forget, too, only one touchdown allowed in the last 7 quarters this season. Encouraging. Hope the offense can do better at taking advantage and not burden the D unnecessarily.

Don't get me wrong, I really like CPR and his entire coaching staff, but Wally has to be my favorite. Without himn, we'd lose many more games.

The Knott scholarship offer story is just awesome. It says so much about what is great about both Rhoads and Knott. Its baffling how so many coaches can miss on an amazing kid like that.

Let's hope no tape exists of that old ISU TV sports show. That's some blackmail material right there.

Thanks as always for reading all! We are lucky to have Wally and the rest of the staff, great coaches, great people.

That was one the first things I thought when he got the game ending interception. It was also cool to see an Iowan making the game winning play in the biggest game in the state of Iowa.

We were at the CF football recruiting party at the Keg Stand. Wally got into an argument with a d-bag (He said the only reason ISU has gone to bowl games is because they were Chizik's recruits).
Wally walks away before it over escalates, stops at our table. Someone says: "Hey Wally, what are you drinking there?" Wally: "A cranberry/vodka, why, does that make me a ***** (cat, if its starred out)?" We all go: "Whoa, we're on your side, no, jeez" to try and calm him down. We bought him another one, and he stayed at our table for an easy half hour BS-ing. What a great guy he is. Just tough nosed, down to earth, real guy. It was awesome.

Blum's writing is so insightful and witty. We're going to look back some day and say I remember when he was a twenty-something writing for that little website devoted to Iowa State. Let's enjoy him while we have him people.

    Cheers

Technically, didn't the ISU defense hold the OSU offense to only 17 points in regulation? Their first TD was a pick six.

    Re: Blum: Ultimate Grinder

This, my goodness a thousand times this. I only played in HS and coached middle schoolers for a handful of years, but even I could tell that our defense was in complete disarray under Chiz. Wally was an absolute steal. I haven't been happier with a defensive coordinator in my 30+ years as a fan, and I rue the day he decides to retire.
