    Big dropoff next year?

I know we're only 2 games into this season, but all the Hawkeye fans I spoke with today are blaming this year's loss to ISU on the fact that they are so young and we're full of seniors.

So I went back and looked at the 2 deeps going into the game, and they are basically correct. ISU has a LOT more seniors contributing than Iowa does. To which my reply basically was... "so what was your excuse last year then?".

But seriously, should we expect much of a dropoff next season? I think the biggest losses might be the two starting tackles in Bykowski and Burris, the starting DT's in McDonough and Laing, and of course Klein and Knott, but that's a given. Hard to say if losing Jantz will be that big of a blow or not? I think we'll be fine with either Barnett, Richardson, or maybe even Rohach next year. They could even be an upgrade after another year under their belts IMO.

We also lose our starting 3 WR's in Lenz, Young, and Horne too. But I think we have some good young WR's up and coming in Jarvis West, Bundrage, Tad Ecby, JQ Daniels, Daley, Quan West, PJ Harris, etc. so I'm not sure how much that will hurt?

What does everyone think? Will we be rebuilding next year, or will we just get better?

As a long time Clone, I truly believe that we're much deeper than we've ever been. Sure, guys like Knott will be difficult to replace, but I think as a team we're finally in a place where new guys will step up once the talent before them moves on.

    Re: Big dropoff next year?

Good grief, there must be a Daily Talking Points memo distributed to those fans by the IC sports information director.

Radio announcers mentioned this over and over after game. They were already prepared to cast the blame on a young team.

    Re: Big dropoff next year?

I wasn't even looking ahead to next year until all these loser Hawk fans at work today started spouting off about how ISU is a team full of veterans and Iowa is basically all freshmen and sophs... and how they will go back to kicking our arses as usual next year and the years afterwards too.

It just ticked me off. So that's why I brought it up. We all talk about how much depth we are starting to build, so I'm thinking we shouldn't see any dropoff at all? Just wondering what everyone else thought?

Not trying to be negative. Sorry I brought up a possible concern going forward. I would just like to see this program continue to build and build instead of taking a step backwards. And I think we will. Just wanted to see what everyone else thought about it?
