    Sagarin Rankings

Take it for what it is worth, it is early in the season but there are two weeks of data to look at and based on that Sagarin has Iowa State at 24th in the nation. That's the good news. The bad news is that the computer still says that is 8th best in the Big 12. Nine teams in the top 25 and the Big 12 as the top conference in the country (SEC has the top 2 teams, but has a lot of weakness also)

    Re: Sagarin Rankings

This is still interesting data. It may not be valid or reliable in a scientific way, but at least Sagarin is trying to remove subjectivity from the ranking system. It's better than listening to Mushmouth (a.k.a. Lou Holtz) spew nonsense about who he thinks the best teams are.

    Re: Sagarin Rankings

What I also notice from the data is that the big 12 has only played 1 game against the top 30 from his rankings. I realize that it is hard to play a top 30 team when the big 12 has almost 1/3 of the teams in it, but it is interesting.

Would like to see the big 12 schedule a marquee game every now and than.

    Re: Sagarin Rankings

What I thought was most interesting this morning when I looked at Sagarin was that ISU was listed as #7 in its ELO_CHESS rankings.

    Re: Sagarin Rankings

Another thing of note is that our 5 conference home games are against 5 of the top 6 in the Big XII (#4, #8, #11, #14, and #22). Our road games are 3 of the bottom 4, and Texas. That either sets up nicely for us having a BIG year, or makes it really hard to make a bowl game, since we don't have any "easy" home games.

    What do you call MI/Texas

KState tried, but Miami didn't come back to relevance like most would have expected. Theres a reason why top 10 teams meet about 10 times a year out of about 1500 games. It has to be the perfect storm even when you are good enough to try and do it.

Non-conference top 10 match-ups are very very few and far between.

Grandpa wanted nothing to do with Oregon or Miami. He knew he couldn't drop both of them so he made the smart decision. K-State under Snyder takes the Tech approach to non-con.

    Re: Sagarin Rankings

Unless you are talking about Oklahoma why on earth would you want someone int he big XII to match up w/ Oregon with the lead time on that decision anyway. Smart move in my opinion. If ISU had that choice, i'd certainly hope that our staff would make the same decision. Anything else would be stupid.

There is scheduling strong and scheduling stupid.

    Re: Sagarin Rankings

Huge jump from last week. Even though we had beat Tulsa we were either 54 or 55 last week with Tulsa at 51.
