    Congrats

I know I'm supposed to be objective these days, but obviously there's no way to totally shut out your upbringing. Part of me wanted Iowa to win today.

But they didn't even come close to deserving it. I'll scratch that and say the defense deserved to win, but the offense was just horrendous. Bad passes, dropped passes, no running lanes. Not one thing could seemingly go right for the Iowa offense. A good portion of that was because of the ISU defense, and some of it was because Iowa simply lacks the horses.

This game wasn't as close as 9-6 suggests. The defense was able to force a few turnovers, and got a gifted one on the botched hand off. But even when they set the offense up, they couldn't follow through.

And the defense didn't play perfectly, either. There were several times where a more accurate deep ball would have gotten ISU another TD. One of the last one, to Horne I think, was damn close. This could have EASILY been a 18+ point game.

Last year, you could have at least made an argument as to which team was better. This year, ISU is clearly the better team, no two ways about it. So congrats on the win (and the winning streak), good luck the rest of the way, and see you again next year!

    Re: Congrats

Both teams had way too many missed opportunities on offense. Naturally, the D would decide who wins.

    ...Now go beat those Cornholers!

You're easily the most rational Hawk poster on this site. Thanks for being classy.

I actually thought that ISU was more clearly the better team last year. This year, they were clearly the better team in the first half, but after halftime, it was pretty much a draw. ISU had some killer mistakes in the redzone, but iowa dropped some easy passes too. I was surprised how well iowa's D played in the second half. ISU still should have scored at least a few more FGs to put the game away, but they didn't.

ISU was clearly the better team on game day last year. I was talking more along the lines of their body of work. It wouldn't have been a particularly strong argument, but at least you wouldn't have been considered bat **** crazy for making it. This year, I don't think you can say that. Iowa's offense is pretty pathetic.

I agree with you. Last year, like this year, the score didn't show how well we played. This year it felt like we played better because 3 times we were very, very close, and should have scored. I think last year that only happened once or twice. But in the second half, both teams played pretty much the same. Each team got a drive going, but couldn't sustain it, and each team played very good D

    Re: Congrats

Iowa State made enough crucial errors to lose the game even though between the 20's they were the superior team. When Iowa had its chances, they totally stunk it up on O with missed passes. Credit Jake Knott for securing the win but I take little joy in this one other than the win, it could have been a statement game - as is Iowa State just sucked less
