Forde-Yard Dash - CFB Attendance on Opening Weekend

Forde-Yard Dash: Empty seats fill college football's opening weekend - Yahoo! Sports

Interesting article about opening week attendance and ticket sales. This makes our opening game numbers even more impressive to me. Great job supporting the team CyclONE Nation! I'm disappointed to see WVU down in it's first game as a member of the Big XII Conference.

Re: Forde-Yard Dash - CFB Attendance on Opening Weekend

I think Forde is pretty much spot on with the reasons why. The home experience of watching a game is so good there is less urgency to actually go to a game, and fans are finally revolting to the ever increasing ticket prices by not going to games against terrible competition. It makes ISU's attendance last Saturday all the more impressive, though Tulsa is a more attractive opponent that what most other teams played against.

So...a game against a lesser opponent with no upside won't bring good attendance?

Sweet! All those arrogant Iowa fans won't show up! Let's turn Kinnick into JT East!

Maybe its just me, but i personally couldnt care less who we play in the opening weeks. I'm there to 1. see the cyclones play, and 2. to tailgate. A win over someone better ultimately means more, but i have a damn good time no matter who it is.

Maybe we will test the terrible competition theory vs. Western Illinois.

Let's say we beat Iowa. Do we see another huge crowd at JTS against WIU?

I think this is true for the fanatics. I think most of us on here can look at any game and dissect it...vegas had us at 20 point favorites, collectively we put it at 18-26, what did we win by and why did that happen?

But for the casual, 'it's something to do on Saturday', fans, it does matter.

I don't know if that would be a fair comparison because Tulsa did fall on a holiday weekend so I think there were some people that made the trip who might not normally make it to a game knowing that they have the holiday weekend. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a little drop off (no more than a couple thousand) even if we win this week.

Its hard to tell because we can't see how many hillside tix have been sold, but as far as actual seats, on cyclones.com/ticketmaster its pretty much just the visitors sections left, about ~1000 seats left, that i bet will get snatched up before gametime. I remember it looking fairly similar for the tulsa game with a week or so to go for that.

I think we'll sell a lot because night games are prime tailgating days, and i personally know a bunch that are making it a point to get to that game.

It works both ways though. There are those that don't come because they have long weekend plans. We always heard that mentioned as a reason to have the thurs\fri games.

If we beat Iowa, we'll stuff the place full of people. Of course, if we're 3-0 for Texas Tech, they can pretty much charge for oxygen and get it.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

Then you have the people that don't want to take a day of work off or have kids who play football on Friday. I would think that Saturday would be the safest bet.

As a student I did appreciate the Thursday night games because most of the profs I had knew Thursday afternoon and Friday were going to be lost days so they just cancelled class which made for a really long weekend.

Out of college I like that they are back on Saturday.

Re: Forde-Yard Dash - CFB Attendance on Opening Weekend

We have a distinct advantage going forward as far as attendance is concerned because Cyclone fans are generally excited just to go to bowl games at this point. Imagine if we can slowly build 8 and 10 win teams. Throw in the tailgating scene and you've got yourself a party.
