Rhoads quote on K Edwin Arceo

    I like this one.

ďHe doesnít get rattled very easily. Believe me, I try to do it with our kickers as we go through practice in the spring. He was kicking the ball very well. I was behind him in his ear and asking him why he didnít kick this well in training camp earlier in the year. He calmly approached the ball, put it right through the uprights and told me, Ďbecause you didnít invite me to training camp.í Thatís the way he is. Practice or game. Iím very pleased to see his performance although his kickoffs need to be a little more consistent.Ē

I'm cautiously optimistic about Arceo. I think he'll have a chance to win us a game or two this year.

Haha nice. Hopefully he is consistent throughout the year. He obviously doesnt have as big a leg as mahoney but if he can make all his xp's and 90% of his fg's under 45 yards, ill be happy.

Is it just me, or does it seem like every field goal we try is from the right hash?

Hitting on 90+% of your fieldgoals would put you in the top 10% of all kickers in the nation every year. I looked up the stats, and only a handfull of kickers in any year make >= 90% on the season. According to the stats, the average FG% from between 40 - 49 yards is only about 60%.

You can spend a lot of time and money picking out the perfect floral bouquet for your date ... but you're probably better off checking if you have bad breath and taking the porn out of the glove compartment.

Representin' Muscavegas! I have to think everyone in the Arceo family were good athletes/excellent kickers. Anyone also see he is not a tiny kicker that'll get run over either...he may not have gotten credited with a tackle (haven't checked that stats,) but he also stopped the long kickoff return from being 6 points. Overall good start to his career! He grew up in hawkeye country and shouldn't be rattled by a road game in kinnick either.

Huh? I thought he was in training camp. He played in the Gridiron Club scrimmage.

Are you referring to the '12 scrimmage or the '11 scrimmage? Rhoads was talking about an exchange in spring practice so he had to be talking about the 2011 traing camp.

Remember when we almost won the big 12 north 2 years, but missed kicks, it can't get worse.

I was thinking about this year's scrimmage, not last year's. Now, the comment makes sense. Thanks.

This is a big thing a lot of fans fail to realize. The problem with ISU is that those kicks we miss, usually are the difference in the game. ISU kickers have had some bad stretches for sure, but by in large, probably no worse than most other BCS shool's kickers. It just ends up being a glaring issue as opposed to a miss that's forgotten because ISU still won by 21 points. At this stage, every point is important and it's too bad that a lot of games come down to the kicker.

This is a family site. We don't use that kind of language around here.

That, and our numbers are often made to look worse by the fact that due to inadequacies in the offense, we've ended up having to ask our kickers to take shots from further distances that most kickers are going to have more issues with.
