    Tailgating in Iowa City

Is anyone else traveling to Iowa City for next weeks game and have advice on where to tailgate? I am arranging a bachelor party that is starting the day by tailgating for the game. I would prefer to tailgate with other Cyclone fans for the game or at least have some around. Which lots if any do you all prefer to tailgate in or have had a good time in? Thanks for any help!

Good luck. Iowa City's idea of the "world's best tailgating" is packing into front yards and hanging out at the bars.

Tailgating scene at IC sucks in comparison to Ames. Sure there are lots of folks out having a good time but it is sooooooooooo spread out. Have your walking shoes handy.

    Re: Tailgating in Iowa City

Tailgating in IC sucks. I'd leave tomorrow morning if you want to get a decent spot.

It's tough to beat ISU in terms of tailgating. Iowa has a bunch of small lots all over the place. Most people end up in people's front yards instead. It's just terrible.

I've said it before. I've never had a bad time tailgating anywhere.

That's what people say when they know their tailgating sucks.

    Re: Tailgating in Iowa City

I would say if you're a visiting fan and you don't know any Hawk fans, tailgating isn't so great because there's not really THE spot. But if you live in Iowa City or are a Hawk fan, you have your spot and it's a grand old time. I've tailgated all over in Iowa City, from the commuter lot to downtown and always had a good time.

    this is true.

that said, when you're used to tailgating at JTS which is very accessible to both home and away fans, going and trying to tailgate at a place like iowa can be a PITA.

The best tailgating for the Iowa game when its in IC is in your own yard... even if you're from Ames or Des moines.

You might be right on that. Somewhat the reverse of the IC vs Ames party scene (well, that may have changed since they went 21+), where in Ames if you knew where a good house party was (which you probably did if you lived there) you could have a great time, but in IC there were bars anyone could find.

    Re: Tailgating in Iowa City

Unless you know somebody in IC your best bet is to park across the river and hit up one of the bars in the Ped Mall. It would be cool if ISU fans all just picked one or two bars to head to and took them over, but I've never seen that happen.

It's never sucked. You guys may like your set up more, but I enjoy the heck out of tailgating in IC. But I know a ton of people that have been tailgating there for years. So I have an advantage.

That might be true for the college aged students. I was talking more for those who are no longer in school.

If you know someone with a spot, you're going to have a blast.

    If you don't, I wouldn't bother trying.
