    Don Shula on the Patriots

What a bitter old fart! Has that group of Dolphins ever heard of sportsmanship? I'm not a Patriots fan, but as far as I am concerned, you could put an asterisk on the 14 game regular season the Dolphins had.

I really hope they go 19-0. Forget spygate, they obviously don't need it to win and it was the first week of the season.

And if the Patriots go 19-0 I would put it ahead of the Dolphins who only actually went 17-0.

Re: Don Shula on the Patriots

I was actually at a conference last week where Shula was the closing speaker. After his talk, which was good, he had a question and answer segment. Someone asked him about the Belichick spygate. He took the high road and really didn't say too much.

He signed autographs after that, and I got to meet him and asked him if he thought the Patriots could go all the way, he said, "I'm afraid so"

I didn't get any vibe of him being bitter about it at all.

I could care less who comes in perfect, just want to see someone with a perfect season just to shut up those smug a$$es in Miami. They could have taken the high road all of these seasons. They would rather see the Dolphins lose the rest of their games for the rest of the history of the world than see their precious record get broken.

I heard this on Dan Patrick this morning too.

I haven't heard a quote that suggests that Shula THINKS the NFL should do something. What I have heard is a bunch of editorializing of what various writers THINK Shula is saying.

From what I hear, he's just laying out the facts and truth. The Pats have a cloud hanging over them. Just like Bonds does. The MLB isn't putting an asterix on Bonds record and I don't think Shula is saying the NFL should either. But that perception is there for most baseball fans and it certainly has been and will be talked about by football fans should the Pats go 16-0.

Personally, I think his quotes are being twisted and this is a bunch to do about nothing. Of course, I've only heard the editorialing and not Shula himself.

Re: Don Shula on the Patriots

I'll qualify my remark by stating that I have been a big Dolphins fan ever since I was a little kid, and even though they are absolutely horrible this season I am still a fan. That being said, I don't think Shula was really whining about the possibility of the Patriots going undefeated. He was stating something I've heard other people, pundits and all, say about the Patiorts legacy being tainted by "Spygate". Hell, he's not saying anything new there people.

Besides, the Patriots DID cheat! It was proven! They certainly don't need to. I think they're a great team, although I can't stand Belichick. I do think he's a great coach, but he strikes me as being a real a$$hole.

Also, think about it; that Dolphins team is the only team in the storied history of the NFL to go undefeated. That is a singular and unique experience. Wouldn't you want to see that legacy perserved for as long as possible? I think it's stupid and audacious for people to criticize that Dolphins team for wanting to hold onto that. If it was any other team, I guaran-damn-tee you that those players would want that record to stand by itself for as long as possible.

Being proud of your record is one thing. Good sportsmanship and class are another. What does it matter if another team does it? Just wish them well. Instead, they follow undefeated teams around like a bunch of geriatric sour pusses, waiting to dance and drink champagne if they lose. It's classless in my book.

Re: Don Shula on the Patriots

I hate em both. As much as i hate it when those stupid old men pop champagne everytime the last team goes down, i hate the Patriots even more. I think its cause they seem like arrogant A-holes... and they stinkin rich.
