-Be kind. That is something you will never regret. You will never say to yourself when you are old "I wish I was not good to that person".

Its damn good to be hearing about players wanting to come here, after so many years of players both transferring away and hearing 'nobody wants to come to ames, iowa'.

Seems like the Trib got a steal with Travis Hines. That article is top notch.

    Great article.

Would not mind seeing the program eventually develop the same type of connections in Texas as we have in the NE.

With the northeast, MN and MI, we don't have to overcome weather at least. We're pretty much on par with them from a climate standpoint. With Texas athletes, weather is always going to be a problem that has to be overcome.

In FB, you pretty much HAVE TO recruit Texas (or the South), and as we know, it's easier said than done.

Fortunately with MBB we don't have to recruit the south to be successful.

The minnesota/michigan pipeline is too crucial. If we keep having success with these states, our program will take off to a level its never been

Yeah, no one is suggesting placing Texas over MN, WI, or MI. Fred, Mann, and TJ could kill it if they could also sell playing in the local conference.

True, NE kids are not afraid of cold weather, but I would still think selling ISU MBB would be easier in Big 12 country than in the NE high schools. Remind (or inform them) we play in Texas at least 4 times a year and that another 4 games they can play against home-state teams. The talent in Texas has exploded in the past decade.

Mickey, Williams and Babb are Texas kids - so to some extent we are in Tx.

In some ways, it's almost inevitable - its a huge state. We will have to overcome UT and Baylor. I think OU and OSU recruit TX as well.

Agree. I was alluding to when the time comes to hire an assistant, will we try again to get an "in" with kids in the NE rather than hiring a coach with strong ties to Texas?

Except that it's not "hone in on". That would be either "home in on", or "hone recruiting hot spots", as in sharpening them.
