Cedar Rapids Sept. 1 Game Watch?

Since the Tulsa game is on FSN ... meaning most, if not all, cable subscribers in Cedar Rapids are going to be shut out of that channel (thanks for nothing, Comcast) ... any ideas on a good spot for a game watch on the 1st?

Another problem for us Cyclone fans is that the Squawkeyes are also playing at 2:30. So pretty much every sports bar and venue in town is going to be packed with black and gold fans hootin' and hollerin' for their beloved boys, leaving next to nothing in the way of tables or screens for those of us who want to watch Iowa State take on Tulsa.

So ... who knows anything? I've heard the northside Field House has been good for ISU in the past, and I've also been able to catch a game at the northside BWW (2010 Utah game, blerg). What other good options do CR Cyclone fans have for the Tulsa game?

Rather than spending 2 hours trying to find a bar in that town with it on, just start driving west on gameday.

I wouldn't count on either of those. The BWW in Coralville will also show Iowa State games... but not if there if a Hawkeye game at the same time. Even Cyclone friendly bars in Eastern Iowa aren't going to give us more than a side TV at best with the Hawks having the same kick time.

True, this. Geez, my work commute home can run an hour. The move to 2:30 makes me think I run down I-35 and catch the game.

Well, okay, but if we're not going to actually go to the game, any other advice? While I'm thrilled that Iowa State gets practically all their games televised this year, I'm moderately ****** that Comcast (which because of the Cubs has the Cedar Rapids cable companies wrapped around its little finger) has ditched the simulcast of FSN games over here on the east side of the state. Therefore we end up with fewer Cyclone games available than we used to have. I was really hoping FX was going to pick up the 11:00 kickoff, but that didn't happen, so ... screw the east side, I guess?

(And no, the "sports pack" is not available for me, and yes, I already berated my cable company to see if they could do anything to help get some ISU games on this season.)

i really doubt the fieldhouse will have us on with iowa playing at the same time (since they seem to be an iowa bar)

i've watched isu openers there in the past when i didnt get the channel (2 yrs ago vs. niu) but i had to ask them to switch off one of the other games b/c it wasnt even on despite being a thursday with little competition

i would buy the package from your cable or dish provider for one month and just enjoy it at home for probably no more than itd cost for 2 beers at a bar

Re: Cedar Rapids Sept. 1 Game Watch?

I share your frustration here in Cedar Rapids. Last year, and I can't who was playing whom, we went to Third Based (used to be Cedar Brewery) on Blairs Ferry. There was maybe a couple tables of ISU fans and ONE TV on the Clones. All the other TV's were on Iowa. Frankly, wasn't a very enjoyable place to watch the game.

You might get a corner and one TV at the Fieldhouse but it'll be lousy with Hawk buttheads too. On the plus side, if we get ahead and win while they lose, it could be awesome!

I was going to ask this same question OP. But I realized it would be more enjoyable for me to go home and watch the game with my family.

I'm guessing that Mahoney's would probably have the game on.

Re: Cedar Rapids Sept. 1 Game Watch?

Just a bumpity-bump, in case somebody has heard something. The Cedar Rapids game watch link posted above says the north side Fieldhouse is the ISU alumni game watch site - but I just called them, and they told me every TV they have will carry the Squawk game tomorrow.

Haven't checked with Mahoneys yet. Any other ideas?

Mulligan's said they'd have both games on. We are heading there.

Re: Cedar Rapids Sept. 1 Game Watch?

three years ago I went to MULLIGANS when ISU played @ Baylor. It was on Direct TV--game not available to cable subscribers

The Iowa game was televised exact same time

There were four of us--ready to drink and each buy DINNER from these rubes

Nearly every table full with a TAVERN HAWK nursing some Miller Lite Tall Boy......

No CYCLONE game. Every one of their 25 TV's were on Hawks

We would of dropped $75-$100, yet they feel more obligated selling a sh$tty tallboy for $2.50......and their clientele NURSE it for 2 hours. I kid you not. A bunch of squatters there. We left

stupid customer service mindset there and zero business skills. Used to like the place

Re: Cedar Rapids Sept. 1 Game Watch?

Guess we are still going to try Mulligan's. Lesser of evils I guess. Third Base on Blairs Ferry might be another option. get there early enough to claim a TV.
