    Improvement Under Rhoads

Progress Under Rhoads - A Statistical Story - Wide Right & Natty Lite

This was a fan post by a WRNL reader who broke down how our squad has progressed under Rhoads in terms of depth (based on experience) and size in the proper places.

I find it interesting as it shows that under Rhoads we've clearly built depth, and added a more athletic offensive line and bigger, stouter defensive line. Its a cliche, but the game really is won in the trenches and its obvious to see the focus and attention that the Rhoads regime has put on that part of the game, and I think every year we're seeing more and more evidence of that pay off. Hope the trend continues.

In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.

That was really good, although I must admit to being thrown by the lack of **** jokes on a WRNL article.

Awesome stuff. I wish he would have gone deeper into the receiver depth chart because I don't know that the numbers reflect the actual size of all the guys that will play but receiver is probably the one position where I don't care about size.

    Re: Improvement Under Rhoads

Having a tall receiver or two really helps an offense. It gives them the optin of throwing over the top and letting that receiver go after the "jump ball"...look at the success the offense had with Todd Blythe, if he wasn't as tall as he is he would have been nowhere near the receiver he was for ISU

    Re: Improvement Under Rhoads

Its a good summary - but speed and playmakers would also have to be factored in to know the true progress - to me this means we need some of these guys that have been in the program to make names for themselves as top big 12 talent - outside of maybe a couple linemen and Knott and Klein and maybe the RB corps - we don't have a lot of proven Big 12 playmakers. Pretty clear the defense has improved as a unit but the offense really hasn't. To win more games in the big 12, they will need to score a lot more points - hopefully that will happen starting this year and we get over the hump of having to rely on a big upset to get bowl eligible.

    Re: Improvement Under Rhoads

Need some size, need some speed. Ideal if you can have both in a few guys. We'll see how fast some of our young big WRs are....

Good info but would like to see a larger sample. What did the roster look like statistically during the Chiz and McCarney years? I have my guesses but would be nice to see the comparison.

Have we ever had "a lot" of them?
