Should the President Be Walking Picket Lines?

Do we want our presidents to be walking picket lines?

Should we be raising the minimum wage annually?

The linked article suggests that both Barick Obama and John Edwards have pledged to walk picket lines while serving as President.

These guys floor me. Where do all these corporate taxes come from? More corporate taxes equal either (A) less jobs for the comrade workers or (B) more money paid by the end user of their products.

Why oh why must there be only two legitimate parties?

Sometimes it amazes me that we consider that we have any legit parties. Both the Republicans and Democrats don't seem to stand for much other than how do we get elected. In addition, they both have their fair share of ethical lapses.

I wrote something about this in my blog, as far as campaign finance reform, and someone, I believe Herbie, brought up a pretty good point that I hadn't really considered. With several legitimate parties, there is a better chance that a more radical party could get into office.

Yup. The two most noteworthy are the Bolsheviks in Russian and the Nazis in Germany. I don't know Italian political history, but deal-brokering between rival parties led to their rise to power.

Moderate parties tend to sell out to get that 5-10% of radical "vote", by promising leadership positions, and then the leaders "cleanse" the moderate party leaders.

Why would the president spend their time walking the picket lines? Can't they be more effective talking to the parties involved? I am sure if the prez called up the head ot he screen writers and said "I would like to chat." He would get much further than going out and protesting.

Because walking the picket line has nothing to do with being an effective leader. Instead it has everything to do with pandering to a particular demographic group.

Re: Should the President Be Walking Picket Lines?

See that is the problem, we don't need a guy who wants to pander to groups, we need a guy who can lead this country. Notice I said, guy, because Hillary is NOT that leader. Of course she is better than Obama, and that is scary.

Unfortunately, that does not describe anyone from either party who has a legitimate shot at winning the presidential election.

When I read the thread's title I was hoping Bush was going on strike!
