    Looking for a Dog (Golden Retriever) . . .

My Fiancee and I are looking to buy a Golden Retriever but more specifically the kind with the Red coat.

Anyone have any tips/leads on any for sale at a good price?

    Cheers

Unless there is some specific reason you want a pure bred, I would go look for a mixed breed golden at an animal shelter. We had a very sweet one for 12 years before cancer took him. He cost $49 to pay for his shots. My brother gets pure bred to hunt with and they tend to be much more hyper pets. Our mixed breed was part golden, part yellow lab. He had the coloring of the reddish golden but shorter lab hair, which was nice since we didn't have to get him groomed.

For god sakes, go to the rescue league or pound in your city and save ones life. There are many goldens that get put down every day because stupid people think they need to go to a breeder. Breeders are the ROOT of the overpopulation problem. 9 times out of 10 they dont give a crap about the animals either. Please, please adopt from a shelter. You are most likely going to get a better dog in the long run anyways. Bred dogs have a lot of physical problems from overbreeding. Use your brain and go to a shelter. Good luck!

And even worse than an android/iphone thread, we have the "where to get a dog" thread.

This one took even less time.

That's why I posted a link to the Golden Retriever Rescue. They rescue goldens from puppy mills and shelters and then place them in good homes. This way he could get a golden and a rescue pet at the same time.

We got our golden from them and couldn't be happier. The prices for adoption are very similar to shelters.

I found my golden at the ARL. He was a little older but is not only the best dog I have ever owned, he is the best dog I have ever been around!

Oh, I agree. Nothing wrong at all w/ shelter dogs. But to say breeders are the problem is flat-out wrong. It's the puppy mills. Responsible breeders LOVE their breed(s) and take the animals' health as a top concern.

Not to discourage you, but just a FYI. Golden's are extremely needy dogs in terms of wanting attention.

This is true. I've also heard that the males are worse than females. My almost 100lbs male thinks he is a lap dog and will try to sit in your lap.

Yeah, right. They care about making money, otherwise they wouldn't be doing it.

    Animal shelters don't make money?
