Not a bad article. I have some Ubben respect. He seems to be fair and fun. I liked the beard comment.

I used to have a lot of respect for Ubben, mainly because he was more fair to ISU than his predecessor. However, he seems to be slowly jumping on the bandwagon of the traditional powers the longer he remains the Big12 blogger. He's been there, what, 3 years and he has yet to make a trip to Ames. WTH?

Not sure how K-State can even be considered a "surprise team" when expectations are high...they're ranked in both polls and are returning a load of players in addition to Klein from a 10-win team.

You're spot-on. K-State is expected to better each year than what they ever actually perform! Where is the same poll asking "Which Big XII team will fall well-below expectations?" (Last year would have been a toss-up between K-State, Oklahoma and Texas Tech)

    HowintheHELL......................

Kan Kansas State be in the surprise category when they won like what ... 10 games last year!!!!

The only way KState would be a surprise is if they win three games and loses to ISU...(which i hope happens btw)

I'm sure starting out all those guys have the best of intentions, and then as time goes on you skew more and more towards what gets you blog hits. I doubt the Big Ten guy is spending a lot of time on Indiana and Northwestern at the expense of Ohio State and Michigan.

Ubben's post today Projecting every Big 12 team's 2012 record - Big 12 Blog - ESPN has destroyed any and all respect I have for the guy. He predicted a two win season, A TWO WIN SEASON, for ISU. I don't think I'll read anything that guys has to say for the rest of the season. I've unfollowed him on Twitter and removed his blog from my RSS feed.

Actually, he predicted 2 Big 12 wins and 4 total wins. When you go through his week to week predictions, its really hard to argue much of it. I think he has us beating Kansas State, Kansas, Tulsa and W. Illinois. My only real argument is him picking Tech to beat us 41-31, but hes not alone in doing that by any means.

True, but I still don't get the impression that he has even acknowledged what advances our team has made. We've only improved on what we had last year with more depth at receivers and O-line, and more experience at QB. We had a great defense last year, and really didn't lose much on that side of the ball. Also, two teams that left the conferences were both losses last year. It's not like we lost any easy wins.

First of all it looks like he predicted a 4 win season with 2 conference wins.

If you look at it objectively, I think you can understand what he is saying. He essentially says he thinks Iowa State will win more than that but since he did what most people around here complain other predictions don't do and predicted every game to come up with his win/loss totals, he didn't have the guts to pick where the upset(s) would come.

I am again picking 5 wins for this team and hoping that I am overly pessimistic.

"There are five real good recruits in the state. We got three of them. One couldn’t get into school, and the other went to (the University of) Iowa...which is about the same thing." - Coach Johnny Orr

And the teams replacing them have won BCS bowls and won their conferences regularly. Something those leaving teams didn't even do.

I really can't blame anyone for not being high on ISU. Our last great season was probably with Sage when we won 9 games.
