I think some teams play an extra game at the beginning of the year. Kind of like an exhibition game I guess.

They call it Week 0 because it doesn't really count for anything from what I have gathered.

We used to play the Academy. They had some athletes but sucked as a team. They talked a lot of trash for being a bunch of criminals.

oh ok, that makes sense I guess. I did find it odd that football games were being played before school even started. I don't ever remember that happening.

    Re: GAMEDAY!

Week 0 count in the scheduled and counts just like all the other games. Team use this to fit in a game to be able to play all the games that they are allowed and also have a by week during the season. When i played high school we had to use one because one of the teams we were scheduled against school closed down so we scheduled a game against one of their opponents during week zero.

Living a stones throw from the HS and stadium, I have seen my support for them grow as I don't have any allegiance to any of the DM school. It might be that most of their HS students know how to properly cross the street next to the HS. I am looking at you Valley kids.

    Re: GAMEDAY!

Dowling (Coach there) Graduated from A-P and my brother is the coach there and another plays so I obviously try to stay connected. I live in Ankeny and know a ton of kids here so I like to see them do well except when they play us.
Also like to see Ames, Waverly, Williamsburg, Prairie City Monroe, and Knoxville do well because of close ties to their coaching staff.
Dike-New Hartford and Iowa Falls can rot in ****. Kidding. (sort of). Yes, 15 years after HS and I can't get over the rivalries.
CyBeliever is right about week 0- In the west side of the state, the schools that have a week 0 game are the ones that have Ankeny Centennial on the schedule next year. Schedule works on a 2 year rotation.

    Re: GAMEDAY!

Ankeny, played for them the past two years and Coach Pezzetti was the best coach to play for. I am glad I didn't go anywhere else for high school because I wouldn't have played for him and his staff.

Beating SE Polk twice last year was pretty awesome, btw.
