FCS playoff expanding to 24 teams

FCS playoff expansion to 24 teams gets OK for 2013 - Yahoo! Sports

I have always been in favor of the method introduced in Death to the BCS where every conference has an auto-qualifier and you add at-larges to make a 16 team playoff.

FCS is doing it the right way, IMO, and for everyone who thinks this many teams wont work in a College Football Playoff...the FCS has made it work and is continuing to expand it.

It's not that I don't think it would work and be great, it's just that with the money and exposure needed to survive at the BCS level, 16 teams in the post season would never be enough. In the end, I think teams like ISU, Indiana, etc. wouldn't be able to compete and we'd end up with 20-30 power house teams at the BCS level and that's it.

I know a lot of people don't like the lesser bowls, but any post season means a lot to recruits. If someone can legitimately figure it out, I'm all for it.

You do realize that Iowa State doesn't play FCS football?

    Paul Rhoads' players never quit.

Re: FCS playoff expanding to 24 teams

Sure, 16 team playoff would work great... for those teams that consistently make it. For those teams, like ISU, that will rarely be in that echelon and making a decent bowl game is our aspiration, it would be horrible as it would increase the likelihood of that all going away.

Also, in general it would suck for fans who like to make vacations out of bowl trips. Can't exactly do that with a playoff (look how few do that with basketball).

FCS schools play an 11-game schedule, not 12 or 13. The teams in the championship game will end with 15. Their first round is on Thanksgiving weekend, with round two on the first Saturday of December (when FBS is finishing the regular season).

With a 16-team bracket in FBS (11+5), you're looking at 17 games for the finalists, with the title game at least a week later than the current one.
