    Pigman Olympic Triathlon

    Hey guys,
I am doing my first Olympic distance tri on Sunday and wondered if anyone had an idea what the temperature of the water is out at Palo now. Course officials have said that it will be wetsuit legal if at 78 degrees or below. I wasn't holding much hope, but with the last few rain showers and the two weeks of cooler weather just maybe... Anyway, just thought I would see if anyone has some ideas of temps on area lakes.

    Thanks

Are you planning on winning/placing in your age group? If not, then wet suit legal doesn't matter if over 78, however if water temp is over 84, then they wont allow you to wear it no matter what.

It's not the temperature of the water out at Palo I would be worried about.

Lol. absolutely planning on winning. Not at all. I just wanted to see if anyone had knowledge of the recent temperatures. I know that some fisherman (at least my relatives would) carry thermometers and will check surface temps when they go out first thing in the morning.

I didn't even know the Pigman was out of the hospital. Good to hear this.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

    Re: Pigman Olympic Triathlon

I'd suspect the water temperature will be close to 78. I did an olympic in central Illinois this saturday. Lake temps around here were around 86 early last week and we got a little bit of rain. Saturday morning the lake was at 80 degrees. My suggestion is to bring a wetsuit but plan on not using it. If you get to use it great, but prepare as if you won't.

    Re: Pigman Olympic Triathlon

for what its worth this fishing website says Saylorville is about 73 degrees.

“It’s beyond pride. It’s a restored trust. There’s a confidence again, a passion that teeters on swagger. More than anything, (Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads) has restored the Iowa State “it” factor, the steadfast belief that it is great to be a Cyclone...the man’s enthusiasm is genuine to the core...”

    Hey Tom!
I didn't know you were on here. You being the avid fisherman, I thought you probably would know all the lake and farm pond temps in eastern Iowa. Hope you guys are having a great Summer!

    Nathan

    Hey Nathan,
I didn't realize that was you!! Maybe if you just used a boat to get across the lake, like a normal person, you wouldn't need to worry about how cold the water is. It's too hard to hold a beer or a sandwich while swimming anyway.

Seriously though, good luck on the triathalon!!
    Tom
