    Saab Owners

I'm currently in the market for a 2004 Saab 9-3 Linear and was just wondering what experiences you guys have had with Saabs.

I drove one once. I achieved the false sense of accomplishment you're looking for.

Also just out of curiosity, any specific reason you're looking for an obscure 10 year old specific car?

Cause I like the way the 9-3 sedans look and I don't have a crap ton of money and have to get one used.

If you don't have a crap ton of money, might I recommend purchasing domestic to save money on repair bills. Just kidden, I dont actually care.

    Re: Saab Owners

I remember the reviews not being too bad for the 9-3 compared to most Saab's. With Saab no longer in existence and you not having a lot of money, probably not the best choice.

    Re: Saab Owners

I would strongly caution against getting a Saab at this point. Now that they are out of business parts have become extremely difficult to obtain. To compound this while there is a considerable amount of overlap on mechanical parts with many GM models GM has refused to release the part numbers for cross reference. As such, unless you have a mechanic who is very knowledgeable in regards to Saab any sort of repair will become difficult to say the least and some parts will simply be impossible to obtain.

    Re: Saab Owners

Remember, you can always get your parts in beautiful downtown Meyer, Iowa (pop. ~20). It's a mere 75 miles NW of Cedar Falls.

The little town I grew up (see above) had one of Iowa's only Saab dealearships, and its still in business there. When I was growing up, almost everyone had Saabs up to the mid 90's when the original owner suffered a stroke. The last Saab my family owned was a 9000 (comparable to the 9-5) and it was a pretty good car. It was going to be my first car, until it got wrecked with about 200K on it. There had been some issues with the A/C, but overall it was a pretty stout vehicle.

In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.

Fortunately, the engine seized up and when the repair estimate came in he parted out the car.

Since that time, GM took over Saab. That should give you a lot more confidence in Saab.

With Saab's very poor financial status my son would recommend steering clear.

    Re: Saab Owners

Just cruise to New Jersey and get one of these guys left to rot.

The Last Saabs Ever Built, Left To Rot At A New Jersey Port

Edit: by the looks of things you missed the auction by about a month.

In all honesty if its something that you really want to own and just have to get out of your system then research, research, research.

I'm sure there are Saab enthusiast forums out there with a 'classifieds' section to help you source what you want. I'm a posting member at a BMW website that has helped me save thousands of dollars on repairs with all their pictoral DIY's provided for free.

I wish I could be of more help but I dont know a damn thing about Saabs.

    Re: Saab Owners

I own a 9-5 and love it, but if you can't work on the car yourself and would need a mechanic I would think twice. Mine hasn't required anything big, except the ABS computer being fixed. That cost $150

Topgear claimed my 9-5 Areo was faster than a Porsche 911 Turbo from 35mph-70mph.

My SAAB has around 170,000 miles on it and still feels like a solid euro import. It's also great in the snow.

    Re: Saab Owners

Have a 2002 9-3 convertible and love it. Only a few small issues regarding repairs but what car doesn't have a few issues. Either go to Meyer, IA SAAB or local mechanic to get repairs. A separate company was formed to provide parts for all remaining SAAB's so should be fine for the forseeable future.

I have a 2006 9-3 and it is awesome. Gets 31 mpg and looks cool.
