More NCAA investigation needed - Noth Carolina

Sounds like the NCAA gets another chance at enforcement with an "alleged" North Carolina academic scandal...

If true, this could bring an athletic department wide death penalty

Sounds good to me. I'm all for being heavy handed across the board...or cleaning up the NCAA.

There are well-refined ways for students to earn credit without going to class. This doesn't necessarily lead to a university scandal. Now, if the profs and grad assistants are complicit, this will become a lightning rod for similar things happening elsewhere.

Agreed. Its time that the penalties started getting tougher. Don't like it? Keep a better eye on your programs\coaches. Also, may never happen, but would love to see schools start putting financial penalties in for coaches after they leave the school if they are responsible for violations (that the school is then penalized for), so they couldnt just bounce with no penalty whenever the ncaa starts getting wind of things.

    Is Roy complicit in this?

So while Mr. Big Stick thumped his chest about Penn State—before and after delivering the sanctions—we haven’t heard squat from him about what will become the worst infractions case in the history of college sports. And that was before the latest mind-numbing details released Monday by the News & Observer: the gross case of academic fraud could go back a decade—and include North Carolina’s legendary men’s basketball program.

Re: More NCAA investigation needed - Noth Carolina

I read an article earlier that said the NCAA has no jurisdiction in this unless the no show classes were only open to athletes, not all students.

Which is complete crap, but in the PSU case, the NCAA 'had no jurisdiction' but doing nothing risked the money train that is college athletics via the public turning against it. In this case, doing something risks the money train that is college athletics via putting a lesser product on the field by taking away the ways to keep players eligible.
