If you were ISU head football coach...

Would you emphasize recruiting the state of Iowa or just try to get the best talent possible? Coach Mac put a little too much importance on Iowa kids sometimes taking any in-state player regardless of talent level and I don't know if Chiz really looked at the in-state crop.

Would you play it safe against Tulsa to open the season or open the playbook? I could see both ways...not leaving anything off the gameplan due to the fact Tulsa is favored to win or keeping some stuff unseen to make scouting vids less helpful.

Finally, Who would start as your QB to open the season and why?

I would grow a handlebar mustache but not shave it off. Oh, and Steele so his fake twitter will be funny this season instead of lame.

    1. Get the possible talent, but understand that you cannot ignore the Iowan kids completely.

    2. Do whatever wins the game.

    3. I guess I would like to see Jantz win the starting job which I would assume that means he shown enough in practice to cut done on his mistakes, but as we all know practice does not properly simulate a game. However, I really don't care, and I have the confidence in Messingham since he seems to improve what ever unit he is coaching so I do expect the offense to be better.

1.Load up with the most talent by any means necessary
    2. I'd confuse Tulsa by coming out in the Maryland-I and running the triple option offense with a backfield of Woody, White and a committee of Nealy/Standard/Leo
    3. I'd start the most mobile quarterback for my response to question 2.

Just recruit Iowa only, and start the third string QB.

    1. Get Iowa kids, but not at the expense of missing out on other talent. Having Iowa kids creates interest and excitement about the program, but def have to get a ton of talent from other places.

    2. I would open it up a bit in the first half, if we are up big, then I would shut it down a bit, if we are close or heaven forbid down I would keep it wide open.

    3. Bart Favre. Why?

Re: If you were ISU head football coach...

I see a lot of "get the best talent available" responses.

Paul Rhoads has not elected to go this route. He chooses guys, to my understanding, whom he believes are All In, hard workers, and fit his system. If he was going after top talent, our rivals recruiting ranking would be higher.

There's more to recruiting than just talent... Another good reason why you can't count out the Iowa boys.
