Trying to figure out some of the player weight gains since last season.

It seems that Lichtenberg is up 305. (played at 294 last year)
Farniok is up to 290 (played at 268 last year)
Knott MAY be at 250 (Yancy mentioned that number during an interview)
    ?????

Those two I've picked up from the various articles here and over at Cyclones.com

Has anybody seen any other weight data?

I realize not all weight is good, but with Yancy it seems that these gains really ARE muscle...so in the absence of an updated roster I'm just trying to piece together some of the gains that have sort of leaked out.

I will be interested in what the qbs line up at also. I would think JB would be more than 199.

Yancy is quite the asset for the Cyclones, he is great at what he does

I'm not sure that Lichtenberg played at 294 last season--I think that was his Spring weight.

    Paul Rhoads' players never quit.

No matter what numbers come out, Willie Scott won't be big enough and our corners will still be scary short.

I'm not sure I agree, our DB's brought it a little height in the off season

I think they normally update the weights on the roster when they expand from 105 players and add the new walkons. I believe that is the first week of classes.

Hope so. Its not THAT big of a deal...but this time of year there's not a lot else to talk about and look at....3 weeks cannot pass fast enough!

A friend overheard Coach Rhoads talk on the tailgate tour about RS FR OT Brock Dagel who came in last year at 240 and now was listed this spring at 284 and should be 290+ when he enters fall camp. He also said that he looks slender at 6' 8" 290+ because he is so long. Yancy and staff know what they are doing but the kid also must have an appetite.

All I can tell you is that this is a team that actually looks like it belongs in a major conference now.

Re: Trying to figure out some of the player weight gains since last season.

For those with access (I do not have it), there is a 2 part story on Yancy on CycloneReport.

Defensively, we do not look a whole lot different size-wise than many teams. We run a 4-3, but our 3rd LB is more of a hybrid safety, so CJ or Broomfield at 213 or 196, respectively, is more akin to another safety. What is promising, though, is that our 2 safeties are over 210 lbs. Now if they cannot be ballhawks or have the speed to make plays all over the place, that is another story, but there is no question the comments the coaching staff & many fans on here about depth is absolutely true. Is that depth legit Big XII talent - we shall see.

Offensively, our OL are much small (lb-wise) than they have been in the past. Having the likes of KO (335+) will skew things, but Rhoads' has been adamant that the prototypical lineman will be leaner, little lighter, and more mobile. He has always thrown out Oklahoma State as a comparison. On paper (again), that appears to be what has transpired. Now we sit back & witness. Hard to wait

We want leaner more mobile lineman so we can run outside?

In spread offense I think the mobile linemen are able to get to the second level more, whether for running or short-pass plays. Please do not hold me to that as I'm no football coach or expert. But I do recall Rhoads giving the OSU comparison on more than one occasion, but I do not recall why I believe it is for what I just stated. If someone else could please elaborate or steer me from wrong to right, please do so.

As a lineman, especially as a big slow one, it is extremely, extremely difficult to make blocks on quick linebackers and DBs in space. Having long, athletic and lean lineman while maintaining strength means that those players will be better at blocking in space in a system that utilizes the whole field by spreading the defense out.

At least that's what my non expert opinion is. (Except for missing blocks in open space in high school, I was an expert at that)
