    Rushing after K-State, Seriously????

Am I one of the few that believes rushing the field after beating an unranked team, that is in no way a big Iowa State rival, is rediculous?

Poor horse. Probably can't take another beating.

Just give the students a break. It was Chizik's first Big 12 win as a head coach, and against a very decent team.

I thought it was dumb, and said so to the people around me that wanted to rush the field (just down the row from Flagguy and SuperFan), but they kept pushing me until I had to go. I just decided to walk up the ramp instead of running to the middle of the field though.

Nah, i really don't think it is too big of a deal. If we are still doing this in year 4 of the Chizik regime then I will have a problem with it. Let the students have fun and enjoy their time in the sun this year when they get the chance.

It really isn't a big deal, put people like to raise a stink about anything the students do that the rest of the stadium doesn't get the chance to, like rushing the field/court. If you feel it's warranted, join in, that includes everyone. I don't think there's a rule that says that only students can do it. Personally, it would be awesome if after a big win, the entire stadium would pile onto the field instead of only the students. C'mon guys, lose your maturity for a minute or two!

That's exactly what happened to us. Neither one of us wanted to go, I was perfectly content enjoying the win from the stands. However, as we told someone with about a minute to go, it's not what we want, it's what everyone behind us wants. After a couple of seconds of people flooding around us, we just had to go.

Heh. I could tell my heart wasn't in it. When we beat Iowa, it was a dead sprint to the fifty. This time, I just kind of jogged out there like, "OK, here I am, I feel kind of stupid."

    Re: Rushing after K-State, Seriously????

Thank god there is a gordyo5 on this site. This is the first time I have ever been so embarassed in the Iowa State fans. We beat Kansas State (5-3, unranked, they suck, the only reason they have any respect is because they beat Texas). I was encouraged by our play, but we're 2-8! I feel great about the way our football team has improved, but maybe we should act like we've won a game before. Everyone wants to talk about how we are taking the "next big step" and you guys are correct when you say this starts with the fans. However, if we are making such progress, then we shouldn't be going crazy when we get our second win of the season against a team like K-State. We at least act like we expect to win a couple games. Thumbs up-Chizik and team, thumbs down-rushing the field.

I am a student and even I know that we should expect to win games against teams like Kansas State. I beleive there should be guidelines for storming the field:
    1. Beating a team ranked in the top 15
    2. Beating a rival that is favored against you
    3. Winning a great game on the last play
    4. Clinching a Conference Championship.

There may be a few other reasons that I forgot but these should be guidelines.

I agree with your guidelines. That's why I tried to dissuade the rusing of the field, but it was to no avail. I have a feeling that most on this site feel the same way, but some beleive it was a bigger win than it really was. It was important to the team, and they probably appreciated the gesture. I just don't see the need to raise a huff about it.

    Re: Rushing after K-State, Seriously????

I was pretty disappointed with the rushing. When I saw people gathering near the end of the game I said to my friend next to me, 'are people really rushing?' It was great to get the win, but c'mon. Normally, I'm all for rushing, but in games that merit it -- rivalry games, highly ranked opponents, heck even a mediocre team that we beat in the last minute -- but I didn't think today merited rushing.

That being said, I'm not going to sit around and complain about what others chose to do. I just thought it was kind of silly.

Also, this "I had no choice, other people forced me to rush" excuse is pretty lame. What are you trying to prove?

Taking the "next big step" has nothing to do with fans rushing the field sorry...

Great first and only post though. Those few fans that did rush the field upset you huh?

    Re: Rushing after K-State, Seriously????

Personally, I don't agree with rushing the field.

That being said, I say let the students have their fun. Once they graduate, if they come back to games, they'll likely never get to do it again. And for the seniors, this was probably the last chance they get to rush the field, at least against a semi-good team. We play Kansas on the road, and rushing Colorado would be absolutely ridiculous...

When you are in front of 5000 people, that is a bit of a ligitimate excuse.

We didn't want to go but did, just so we wouldn't be pushed over. Went out to the 50 for a picture (because hey, next week is our last game, and the last game that Cy is on the 50...), but we went back up through the stands and walked out of gate 2 like we normally would

Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State,
and may her colors ever fly!!!
