    Yeah it has been a much less humid summer. My dehumidifier hasn't run much at all this summer

    I know nothing of farming, or at least very little. Does this say something about modern farming methods and that it does it's job then, since it didn't turn as bad as it did back then?

    I grew up in Nebraska. When I told my family I was going to ISU, my grandpa told me about picking corn between Ames and Neveda in '37, '38, and '39 because there was no corn to pick in Nebraska. "Back then Nebraskans could have lived off of what Iowans threw away"

    When a horse got sick they took it to the Vet college. He said Iowa State was a good school and was glad I was going there. He picked corn for the Ackerman (spelling?) family, and it was somewhere within sight of the railroad tracks because he was always impressed with the "streamliner" trains that would go by while they were hand picking corn and throwing it into horse drawn wagons.

    About 2 weeks ago on the news I thought they said we were something like 4.67 inches short on overall rainfall for the year. I was rather surprised as I thought it would be much worse than that.

    The last rain I remember was the morning of June 29th.

    That's true. But also remember we on average for total precip up to June 1 (cumulatively speaking).

    Up to date, Des Moines is -6.31" for the year, and -6.14" since June 1. So almost all of that crammed into a 2 month span.

    Looks like it's starting to improve a little bit. There are definetely still haves and have nots, but at least we're getting some rain events and there is a bit more in the forecast.

    That being said, we still have August in front of us.

    Where I'm from we've already had more rain in August than July. So we've got that going for us I guess.

    Well to be honest, we had around .2" in July and got .64" on Saturday. Over 3 times as much!!!!
