    are you a soccer fan?

the other thread about soccer attendance made me wonder what the ratio of fans vs haters was.

I'm a fan, not a huge MLS fan, but a big BPL fan. Really love watching Champion's League, Euros and of course the World Cup.

Don't really see why anyone would hate soccer. Its great to drink some brews with friends and watch. Not to mention the lack of commercials is an enormous bonus.

Re: are you a soccer fan?

    i went for option #2

when people say "i'd watch if we were better" does attendance/public interest really matter in skill

we got some good ping pong players and im damn sure noone watches

I am becoming more of a fan. I could become a real fan if players would stop flopping around and faking injuries all the time. so frustrating to watch. I think it was south africa in the world cup who really impressed me. they were just a bunch of big tough athletes who rarely if ever flopped. if they were tripped, they would get back up and continue play without all of the drama.

if football continues to become less rough, soccer needs to become more rough. I watch the world cup but that's about it.

i really hate the argument about flopping where people say "its a part of the game". since when is being dishonest and faking an injury a "part of the game". I know players try and cheat in every sport, but faking an injuries continuously for the duration of a game is a bit much for me to handle.

toughen up and i'll become a fan. as that will likely never happen, i will likely continue to just watch the world cup and the olympics (if we ever qualify).

Soccer is one of those sports where it's fun to play, but for about 90% of the time, it's really boring to watch...

FYI golf is my favorite sport, and I could say the same about it...

I watch the World Cup, Euro Cup, and the Champions League when I can. Haven't really watched a MLS match yet unless they are playing a European team.

Re: are you a soccer fan?

I hate it personally, but I respect that other people enjoy it. Choice is always good. I think it's boring to watch, and the whole "jumping off of the stretcher to play again" thing really irks me.

However, in addition to football and baseball I'm a fan of tennis, cycling, and (real) wrestling. I could see arguments for all five of those sports being boring to watch to the non-fan, but I still love them. I think the more you know about technique used in a specific sport, the more interesting they are to watch. I just don't have the desire to learn enough about soccer to make it interesting. All of that said, the faked injuries/fowls are what pushes it from neutral, to me hating it (similarly to basketball).

this is huge for me. pathetic that the RULES of american football have changed to allow for commercials. although i love football, it has become very watered down with commercials, and seems to get slower and slower every year.

Voted for World Cup, but I would go to a MLS game before I'd sit through 4 hours of a baseball game.

Re: are you a soccer fan?

I can watch the World Cup, but that's about it.

For lack of a better term, I hate the "production value" of soccer. Its hard to explain, but I don't like the way the stadiums look, the way the games are broadcast/presented, the way the crowd reacts to the game (although I admire their interest/passion). I hate the constant flopping as well.

I respect the athletes who do it at the highest levels as its clearly a difficult sport to play. I just don't enjoy it.

Sounds like every American sport. I can harshly watch TV anymore cause its more focused on advertisement then entertainment. Very disappointing

It's too bad FIFA makes them nerf Olympic soccer so much, 4 years is along time to wait between World Cups.
