    Sporcle quiz on Iowa counties

I just posted a quiz that I made about which Iowa counties have lost the most people since their historical peak (most over 100 years ago). I love stuff like this and have always been fascinated with population trends and how places grown and shrink over time. When I was looking through an old book I have ("1999 Iowa's Counties..."), I found out that each of Iowa's 99 counties had over 10,000 people for the 1920, 1930, and 1940 census. Then I thought it would be interesting to see which ones had lost the most people. Once I did that, I decided it might be good on Sporcle.

The quiz is pretty hard, I think. So I would like some feedback from those of you willing to play it. If the overall consensus is that's it's too difficult, I may just take it down. Or would it work better as a "clickable" quiz? Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Can you name the Iowa counties that have lost the most people? by Buster28 | Online Games & Trivia by Sporcle

I also have an older quiz for Iowa's largest cities in 1950. It's a bit easier.

    Bump.

Kinda disappointed this post fell through the cracks. I thought it might have gained a little more traction that it did when it was originally posted.

The second is definitely more fun. The first is one that you would really have to know your Iowa counties to get even some.

I love this kind of thing too. I sucked at the first quiz, but got 17/20 on the 2nd. 2nd quiz is more fun, but that's because it's easier...

Re: Sporcle quiz on Iowa counties

    20/20 on the 2nd one.

Once I started just going to the Mississippi, I was able to fill in the tough ones.

There were some cities I was pretty surprised to not see on that list.

From Wikipedia, here are the largest cities in Iowa currently in the top 20 that were not on the 1950 list:

    West Des Moines (#10)
    Ankeny (#11)
    Urbandale (#12)
    Marion (#14)
    Bettendorf (#15)

Those five replaced Ottumwa (currently #21), Muscatine (currently #22), Boone, Keokuk, and Fort Madison (all of which are not in the top 27 currently).

18/20 on the second one. I had 3 minutes to try to figure out the last two and for some reason, I kept drawing blanks...
