Here on Tobacco Road the UNC-CHeat academic scandal is starting to grow some roots. The News and Observer (Newspaper that took down NCSU's Jimmy V in the '80's) has a special web page dedicated to the story as smoke turns to fire: NewsObserver.com | UNC academic scandal
Long story short, athletes from football AND BASKETBALL were funneled towards the African American Studies program and into bogus/no-show classes in order to stay eligible. This happened potentially dating back to 1992 when they beat the fab-5 for that year's NCAA championship. This is all coming from a UNC faculty senate report.
Also, the local TV stations and the News and Observer have a pending lawsuit against UNC for the personal phone records of Butch Davis who used his own phone for what many presume as the go-between conversations for paying players (this is a development since the NCAA concluded their first investigation).
All I have to say (as a NCSU alum and current grad student) is that the view looks good from here in Raleigh.
