    Best chicken curry in Ames?

I've decided I need some chicken curry for lunch. I know the yellow curry at The Spice is amazing, but I don't really want to drop $12. Any suggestions?

I've heard that the curry at May House is really good, but the last time I was there (about ten years ago) kind of scared me off. Is it worth the trip?

May House is extremely delicious! I never gave it a shot until a few years ago, and was very satisfied.

I think May House falls under the same category as Little Taipei and Cocost (similar style of service and level of quality). If you're going that route, I've always been a fan of Chinese Homestyle Cooking by the old fighting burrito.

The spice is always a good choice though. The spring rolls there are life-changing. Are their prices always that steep, even during the lunch hour?

They're a tiny bit cheaper than dinner, but still pretty expensive (for lunch, I mean). You do get a single appetizer (at least when you dine in) - I think they change it every day, but it's always been the wontons when I've been there. It's super-good, but hard to justify at lunch, you know?

I'll have to try these places you guys listed. I hadn't thought of the Thai places in town, or even Cocost. I was wondering if Le's Vietnamese had good chicken curry, too...

I need to give it another shot. Businesses change a ton in ten years, I just need to try it!

Did it used to be... Wok Inn in that location?

May House was considered by all the Chinese students I know to be the most authentic Chinese food in Ames (Circa 2009) for what it's worth. Of course, with something like curry you may not want "Authentic Chinese Indian" food.

Yeah, I'm not sure what particular ethnicity would have the "best" curry? I mean, you can get chicken curry at Indian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai restaurants... I like yellow curry the best, but I also love red curry. I'm guessing most of these are going to be a spicy red curry (the ones I have tried all are, unless otherwise noted), but I don't know which is the most flavorful.

I work on the west side of town, I think I'm going to start today with May House, and then explore eastward from there over the next several weeks... :)

Is the Indian resturant still there by West HyVee? I remember it tasting good, but it has been awhile.

The place opened up when I was still a student and I was amazed that it was still open after a year. I ate there a couple of times and liked the food but I thought the location was terrible. Since Hy-Vee put in a gas station right next to it that probably improved the area quite a bit.

Everything I've eaten at Indian Palace in campustown has been delicious.
