Things to do around Vail/On the way to Vail

Heading to Vail Colorado in a month for a conference. I've been there twice before and I'm looking for other cool things to do/see within an hour or two of that area. Unfortunately, because of a temporary health issue, I can't really bike or hike. Any ideas? Thanks.

    Do you like to golf?

Glenwood Springs is beautiful, about 1 hour from Vail (further west). Good scenery, rafting and hot springs.

My Lord by the thread title I thought you meant Vail, IA. Colorado makes much more sense.

Re: Things to do around Vail/On the way to Vail

Head to the Glenwood Springs/Aspen area and fly fish for rainbow and brown trout in the Roaring Fork and Frying Pan Rivers. There are "Gold Medal" waters in the area. You can also fish in the Eagle River and Colorado Rivers as well. Rafting trips on the Colorado are fun. Can you bike? Mountain biking is intense and usually available at the ski areas for rent but there is also a paved trail from/to the top of Vail Pass if you want something a little smoother. Vail has a couple of great golf courses along I70. Great area to visit.

Go to the Arapahoe Cafe in Dillon, Co. Spend the whole time there.

When you're there, do whatever you have to do to make it snow a lot in the Rockies this year. Last year sucked.

I wouldn't go to Vail until the "temporary health issue" is taken care of permanently.

Go catch a trout at Piney Lake. Absolutely gorgeous. My 10-year-old daughter got one. Great time.

Agreed. Although golfing up in the mountains is pretty awesome too. Ball goes noticeably further if you have high enough ball flight, and it's pretty damn scenic.

Hiking would probably be the #1 activity I'd recommend during the summer though.

I would buy a snowboard, they should be cheap this time of year.
