    Cardinals game tips

My husband, his Dad, and our older two daughters are going to a Cardinals game the first weekend in Aug. Any tips to make the most of the experience? My husband wanted to see batting practice but it looks like it may almost be over by the time the gates open. Is it worth getting there 2 hrs early?

Tried to get into the Drury by the Arch, but it was booked back in April when I started looking. They will be at the Drury at Union Station instead. Get in Fri night, will prob hit the Arch Sat before the game. Sun they may do City Museum before heading home.

Hubby has had the chance to see a Giants game in SF, a Twins game at Target Field and now a Cardnials game all within the past two months. Of course he wore Cardinals gear to the other two games as well.

    Re: Cardinals game tips

The first weekend in August in St. Louis is going to be brutally hot. I went to a game on August 1 in 2006 and it was still 100 degrees when the sun set behind the stadium around 8:30 pm. Hopefully they have seats in the shade.

I recommend hanging out at Laclede's Landing afterwards.

Go early, they will still have batting practice when gates open. After the game stop at the bars/tents just south of the stadium and have a cold one while visiting with fellow fans. Be sure and see the Rawlings exhibit outside center field and watch how bats, balls and gloves are made by hand. Eat in Soulard after the game, just pick a place and have fun. The zoo is fantastic as is Grant's farm - both free. The Brewery tour is better than you can imagine - also free.

It will be hotter than Hades. If you are still looking for tickets, look for anything set back along the concourse (other than the very top deck) on the first-base side, because in case you don't know the stadium is oriented towards the northeast. That should be your best chance at being in the shade.

If you are going to be out by Union Station you can always take a look around there as well.

Union Station is pretty much dead nowadays.

dont let the cabs take you to the strip club in Brooklyn, Ill. I don't even think it is considered America inside that place.

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

I'll actually be in St. Louis for this series as well. It will be hot, yes, but the killer will be humidity. I have never been to City Museum, but actually plan on going there for this trip. Priceline.com has some good hotel deals.

    Re: Cardinals game tips

I just went to a Cardinals game a few weeks ago, stayed at Union Station. You can walk to the park fairly easy, but since we had my spry 87 year old Grandpa with us and it was 106 we elected for the short and cheap cab ride. He isn't that spry!

We got there early and enjoyed just walking around the stadium. We went in along the first base side, walked over by home plate, left the satdium (with beer in hand, they said it was fine), checked out the statue are, then back into the stadium. They had a big cooling area shooting water everywhere by the statues and a firetruck spraying water out of its ladder hose to help people cool down.

A good combo activity we did was the Budweiser tour and then lunch at Bogart's Smokehouse, which is close and between the brewery and the stadium. A fun tour with free samples and some delicious BBQ.

They are in Sec 129 by the right field foul line--from a couple pictures I just looked at, hopefully they will be in the shade by early evening.
