The bible beaters outside the stadium

Did any of you see the nut-jobs walking around the stadium with the big signs telling everyone that they were going to hell!? WHere in the eff did they come from? I sure hope thats not some campus organization, that would be extremely embarrasing. They reminded me of Fred Phelps' lunatics. Hopefully they wont be back again.

I saw them, and couldn't believe they thought that anybody there was going to listen. As I told them, the only time we pray at football games is when we kick field goals. As my sister told them, they had the makings of a nice sail, could we borrow it to take to the lake this weekend? I agree, they reminded me of some Fred Phelps groupies. I live in Ames, and I've never seen them around before. I guess they figured Jack Trice was a den of iniquity!

yeah... I saw that too... and I'm pretty sure the bible doesn't preach that anybody who reads a giant yellow out of place banner is going to hell... I'm sure that offended a lot of people and was quite counter productive to thier cause.

I am a devoted Christian and a hard core cyclone fan. I couldn't believe that they were sharing their faith with others in such an unloving manner. I wanted to confront them but with people like that (delusional/personality disorder) you cannot reason with them. I have no problem with people quietly asking others if they could give them a pamphlet. Yelling at people with huge signs is uncalled for. It is better to ignore them.

Those people are hilarous. Last spring there were a bunch of bible freaks outside the library and there were like 200 people heckling them. Man that was funny.

I'm also a devote Christian, and I have to admit scenes like that just embarrass me. I just want to know if there is one single, solitary person that has decided to change their life because somebody was yelling at them they were going to hell at a football tailgate.

I'm willing to bet that total is roughly zero. Frankly it seems like self-indulgance for the people doing the yelling.

they told my wife that she was going to hell! We are somewhat regulars at church, and they fruitloops aren't anything like the people at my church. Its like they are in a brainwashed cult or something. How stupid are they that they dont know how hipocritical they are being?

The fact that these lunatics claim they know the eternal destination of any other human being is proof enough that they don't believe the Word of God. "Judge not, lest ye be judged..." Only God can judge.

BryceC makes an outstanding point. If we are to go make disciples of all nations, I am quite certain that screaming at others and threatening them with eternal damnation is not the most efficient way to go about this. We are to love. People like that are the reason unbelievers have such negative pre-conceived notions of what it means to be a Christian.

If all it takes to get sent to hell is enjoying a beer or five and a football game, I'd say heaven will be a pretty empty place.

I saw them there, and although I thought their message was quite stupid and counter-productive I at least can respect their right to peacefully assemble and exercise free speech. You catch more flies with honey, and perhaps stating more uplifting bible verses would've helped them a bit more. They made themselves look pretty damn bad. I was half tempted to ask one of them whether I should bet the spread or not, their divine intervention couldn't have hurt.

I'm sure that it wasn't from any of the campus organizations. It was probably some group that travels the country on college campuses, and just happened to be in Ames yesterday.

God doesn't need groups like that. Like some have posted above, it's a very counter-productive evangelism approach. Unfortunate...

I admit I had a few before I walked by. The guy told me to look in the mirror or something because I was going to hell. I told him that I bet he has a mirrror too, and he should use it in the same manner.

yeah I walked right by them, I'm a christian so they didn't really bother me too much I just ignored them. They're not the ones who decide whether I go to hell or not so what they say is meaningless to me.
