Question for parents of small children....

Do you live in a mad house?

I have a 19 month old and a 3 year old and I came to the conclusion last night that I do in fact live in a mad house.

I am not sure where this realization came from. I was just standing there in the kitchen having just finished yelling at the dog for taking food from my daughter, who was of course offering it up to said dog. I then had a Nerf football sail past my head and knock a glass off the kitchen counter and break it. Now the dog and my son want to see what is all over the floor so I am playing offensive tackle and yelling to keep everyone away from the glass. Meanwhile, my daughter has now dumped her entire meal, plate and all on the kitchen floor. This was only 30 seconds of the evening.....

Now this evening was not really all that different from any other evening. After I had cleaned up the broken glass and had moved on to the next disaster, somehow it hit me that I had become what Bill Cosby talks about in Bill Cosby himself.

I gave you rep. I don't know how parents make it through the day!

Dad of a 3 yr. old and 6 yr. old boys here...your post sounds typical of what goes on here. My favorite part of the day? Bedtime-12AM. The house finally gets quiet.

So this is what I have to look forward to in the next couple of years? Sounds like fun

Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice?
Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.

What side were you playing...left or right tackle? Good footwork or were you flagged for holding?

FYI: I have been a full-time stay-at-home dad for 6 years. By choice.

Wrap your head around that one.

I played left tackle in high school, but it seemed like most of the pressure last night was coming from the 6-hole so I had to move over and play the right side.

Re: Question for parents of small children....

ohh man I feel your pain! NIGHTLY! Mr poor wife deals with it all day long. We have twin 3 year olds and a 2 year old, so I know this feeling all too well. When one thing goes bad, it just snowballs quickly out of control.

We had a disaster drill at work a while back, and total chaos was going on, I just sat there doing the stuff I needed to do to get the site back up, it was like nothing bad was happening. I got commended on my skills of keeping calm during chaos. I just laughed and said this is less chaos than a perfect night at home.

I deal with it for only a few hours during the evenings and then on the weekends, MrsBrianHos is home with the kids all day long. She is a saint!

Luckily I only have one, so the craziness is somewhat containable. When he was smaller, the chaos occurred when he was sick. It's an amazingly tough decision when there is fluid projecting from both ends, and you have to decide which end should be pointed towards the toilet.

You're about 18 months ahead of me - my daughters are 22 months and 3 months. Now I understand why my parents are the way they are. . .
