    Looking for a Printer

Talking to a publisher, and it occurs to me that I really need a printer. Reviewing and editing are better done for me on hardcopy than on a 15.6" laptop screen.

Given my illness and "starving artist" status, I don't have a lot of time to shop. Could you folks on CF please suggest a durable, economical, efficient printer? I just need to to print pages of my manuscript for now, maybe a few envelopes. Lots of pages to go through. No photo printing, nothing like that. I can get something fancier later--but I don't want to buy a piece of junk, either.

Let me know where to look, what models are good, and I'll figure out a way to get it. Thanks in advance!

Depends on if you really want to buy one or not right away, In a pinch I've gone to the library and they usually give you a certain # of pages free per day and then $.10 or so per page after that. Can also print a draft at Kinkos or something as well pretty quickly

Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.

Here are a couple free ones from Craigslist. Just looks like you have to buy some ink. Might want to ask if they come with all the necessary cords.
    50" Toshiba TV, Lexmark Printer
    HP printer

There are a ton of printers for $20 and under in the Des Moines area listed on Craigslist, as well.

    Re: Looking for a Printer

We've got a lower end dell monochrome laser printer and I really like it. If you don't need color, it's great for printing text, etc, and has outlasted my other color printers by a long shot.

I don't do signatures. Blondes, brunettes, and red heads are a different story.

No. I have a couple in my apartment I'm getting rid of.

I haven't heard of any departmental ones on the way out. We only have the one, I think.

I've got two Epson Nx-215 printers I let go for cheap, though you'd need to buy ink for them.

    Re: Looking for a Printer

I found a couple of HP refurbished printers for under $40 w/free s&h on the Newegg site, (a guy at Best Buy suggested the site when I needed a hard to find fan for my Dell). It's the only thing I've ever got from Newegg, but it was just what I needed at a great price.

Here's the link, if you want to check them out:
    Newegg.com - Discount Item, $25 - $50, Refurbished, printers all in one

It might be a little late in the summer, but you could call ISU and see if they're having any more sales on used equipment, too.

    Re: Looking for a Printer

I'm on my second HP All in One in 5 years and I'll never buy another one. Major software issues and they shake like a tilt-a-whirl when they print.
