    10 Teams Interested in Dempster

After pitching six shutout innings Saturday to extend his scoreless innings streak to 33, Chicago Cubs starter Ryan Dempster could not avoid questions about his seemingly inevitable departure from the organization.
With a little more than two weeks until baseball's trade deadline, 10 teams have shown legitimate interest in acquiring Dempster's services for the rest of the season, according to industry sources. Those clubs include the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox and Atlanta Braves.
The Cubs have started, in earnest, to look at minor league players at the lower levels of almost every farm system. The organization is looking for young pitching in return for its veteran players, but, according to a baseball source who has inquired about trading with the Cubs, a well regarded third-base prospect is also very high on their wish list.
While Dempster's entire body of work this season has made him a valuable commodity, Saturday's start, which resulted in a 4-1 Cubs victory over Arizona, proved he can get hitters out without having his best command or arsenal of pitches.
"You see a guy like that struggle with command and pace, at the same time get all the important outs," said an American League scout. "Dempster makes it easy for me to call my GM and say 'get this guy now because he has such a great sense of how to get the job done (and) he will help you win each time he goes out there.'"
    And

Off the record, some teammates have said they are assuming that Dempster will come back as a free agent after the 2012 season. Knowing Dempsterís attachment to the Cubs and the city of Chicago, coming back next season is probably the thought process that is getting him through these next few weeks.

If we could something for him and get him back, that's a fantastic deal.

When he breaks the club scoreless record in his next outing, his stock just goes up some more.

OK, that's a couple of starts away.

I read his tying Holtzman as tying the club record. Oops.

There is really no point in him making another start for the Cubs. He has nothing else to prove. Trade him while he's pitching his best and still healthy.

I have my doubts many GMs are going to give up any prospect worth more than a bag of baseballs and some sunflower seeds if they don't think they can extend him past this season.

That said, I don't know that any team can't use a veteran arm to eat up innings. Especially say...the Nats.

I think 59 is the MLB record. Orel Hershiser, last time the Dodgers won the World Series. He was on dominant that year.

Sorry, that record belongs to Orel Hershiser. 59 straight in 1988 breaking the previous record of 58 by another Dodger...

Re: 10 Teams Interested in Dempster

I would of thought Pittsburgh to be interested, but they are probably looking for another bat not arm. This could be big either way, if we could acquire some good prospects for him, it would be great. The way I see the future:

    Infield
Rizzo Barney Castro vitters? Soto? Valbuena?

    Outfield
    Jackson soler? Lahair? Campana?

    Pitchers
    Garza Samardzija wood maholm (dempster)

I really like the future of the position players. We need a catcher though. Getting a little tired of soto. You look at great NL teams, you need a great offensive superstar catcher.

¬*The club record of 44 consecutive scoreless innings was established by Ed Reulbach back in 1908.
