If NBA players weren't allowed in Olympics

Hopefully they never do this, but this is probably what the team looks like. Most of these players were already drafted, but he makes the case that theyve never played an NBA game, yet.

What would the USA Basketball roster look like if no NBA players were allowed in these Olympics? - Yahoo! Sports

Of course, I would have Royce in there, but Ames High School is represented pretty well.

Re: If NBA players weren't allowed in Olympics

I actually wish they would go back to this. From the comments by Wade and others it is pretty obvious that thsee players are so jaded that this doesn't mean anything to them. Let the real amateurs participate like it was supposed to be.

Team USA would get destroyed without the use of our NBA players. I hope it never happens. Doug McDermott and Draymond Green going against world class professionals in the Olympics? Please.

Wouldn't those world-class professionals also be ineligible?

Re: If NBA players weren't allowed in Olympics

I would prefer them to go back to the college players.

However, as far as the NBA marketing themselves on a global basis, this would never happen. The nba grew by leaps and bounds after the og dream team.

Re: If NBA players weren't allowed in Olympics

It is going to happen and it this might be the last Olympics for NBA. Players are starting to want money and owners and Stern don't want to see their players injured or worn out for the coming NBA season. Makes sense to me. NBA has already established itself globally and has proved what it set out to prove.

"But you know that old thing, live fast, die young? Not my way. Live fast, sure, live too bloody fast sometimes, but die young? Die old. That's the way- not orthodox, I don't live by "the rules" you know." - David Brent

Re: If NBA players weren't allowed in Olympics

Stern said in late May there might need to be an age limit (23 and under) placed on U.S. competitors in basketball.
I wouldn't have any problem with this because it would give some of the new guys a chance to be on the team but wouldn't necessarily be that much more of an advantage over the other countries.

Re: If NBA players weren't allowed in Olympics

I also dont get how people would think we would get killed. Bunch of young players that have somethign to prove as opposed to bunch of vets that have been there done that, think they can coast to win.

Im not saying they would win every single year, but most foreign teams have 1-3 NBA players, most being backups. Our team would be all NBA cal players albeit young.

On top of that I think the college game matches up better with the international game.

The US dominated Olympic basketball before NBA players were allowed to compete. Taking NBA players out of the equation again wouldn't change anything.

I wish they'd go back to amateurs, and I think we'd still field a hell of a team.

They still medaled in 88 and 72. 1980 doesn't count because the US didn't play (boycott).

Even in the relatively short period of time when NBA players have been allowed to play, they still have a year when they only got a bronze.

should have won 1972. If you haven't watched, check this out:

Most controversial ending of all time. US got screwed pretty hard.

'72 doesn't count either if you ask any member of that team. There are twelve silver medals sitting in a Swiss bank that will probably never be claimed.
