what is growing in your garden?

So how is your garden doing this summer?
I managed to fend off the squash bugs and vine borers and have some healthy squash and zuchinni plants now. It is finally getting cool enough at night to start bearing fruit.

Green beans had a tough go of things this year, but still got a decent crop.

lots of peppers and tomatoes will be ready to go in the next couple weeks.

Re: what is growing in your garden?

green beans were great this year. my tomatoes were way better than ever and I have a ton of watermelon and muskmelon. I put chicken poop down right after i planted everything. I covered the whole garden with it and I had green beans at 4 inches in less than a week. I really think the chicken poop was the best thing I ever did. I highly suggest getting some chicken poop and putting on the garden. It is way better than any bag fertilizer I have ever bought and it is free if you can find the right people.

tomatoes are close, chili, Jalapeno, and red peppers are there, green beans are keeping the Japanese beetles fed and cucumbers are ready in a couple days. Treated the green beans yesterday and the bugs are gone, so we will see if they will produce now...

    Nothing. Too dry.

Kidding aside I just do flowers. Sucking up every drop of water.

I have also harvested lettuce, spinach, radishes, and snow peas. I am thinking that some potatoes will be dug up soon.

Tomatoes, peppers, onions, potatoes and some beans going. When do you know the right time to pull up potatoes? First year doing a garden for me.

When the vines start to dry up, they should be ready to dig.

Same here. We have people in Minnesota that grow our vegetables for us city folk. We buy these at grocery stores. It's a pretty good system.

Well, that and my lot is so shady the only food stock I could grow would be mushrooms.

generally, potatoes will stop growing when they flower and go to seed or you can wait until the tops die off, or you can just start digging them up when you feel like having awesomely fresh potatos next to a nice steak.

What do you use on your squash and cucumbers to keep the vines healthy? Mine would always turn white and appear to dry out.

My tomato plants are humongous, most are 5' tall and very thick.
Sweet corn is looking good so far.
    Peppers are doing very well.
    Onions are looking terrible.
    Strawberries didn't do anything.
