    Is Ricketts a bum?

I'm not going to get into the political side of things because both parties are so messed up. However Rickettes wanting to add more advirtising and a jumbotron to Wrigley are you kidding me! You spent $0 trying to win this season and are complaining about the maint cost of your ballpark which is the only thing drawing fans into your ballpark.

meh, it's a tough call imo. Look at every other stadium there is advertising everywhere, it's definitely lost revenue compared to other clubs. At the same time though where do you draw the line of history and increasing ad revenue. So far I have no complaints with the Toyota sign and the new Budweiser party deck.

Grow up Tom? I think Emanuel is the one who needs to grow up here. Wrigley is in dire need of renovation at a price of nearly $300 Million. Everything has a price tag, and advertising makes good money. Its not 1920 anymore.

I applaud the Ricketts for wanting to keep Wrigley, because there are not many people who would invest the amount of money they did into the Cubs without wanting to ditch Wrigley and build a modern day stadium somewhere else.

My issue was not with the political side of thing but with the advirtising and intentional blocking of the rooftop venues wanting to removed the landmark staus of the park. The community around Wrigley has adopted to the team and helped draw in fans. Just not a fan of the us vs. them stance Rickett's is taking. Seemed like the old ownership had things harmonizing a lot better.

What? The Tribune attempted to block the view of the rooftops like 10 years ago. The Tribune put up lights and started playing night games which beyond ****** off the neighborhood. The Tribune was not a "harmonizing" neighbor by any stretch. And really, what have the Rickett's done to **** off the neighbors?

The bottom line is, there is a vast amount of potential revenue that is left to had with Wrigley, and if you want Wrigley to continue to be the home of the Cubs, your going to need to get as much money as you can. The City of Chicago and the entire Wrigleyville area needs to be careful, because the the Rickets could make A LOT more money if they built a new stadium in the burbs or downtown somewhere.

WTF? You have it backwards. The Cubs have helped draw fans into that neighborhood and the surrounding businesses. Do you realize that would be just another neighborhood if the Cubs weren't there?

    Re: Is Ricketts a bum?

The Cubs moving from wrigley is not going to happen. If it were to happen, he could kiss his money goodbybe because the Cubs would just be a bad team playing in an empty new stadium. A lot of people go see the Cubs because it is in Wrigley, take that away and it takes away a lot of the draw to go watch the Cubs.

    Re: Is Ricketts a bum?

I obviously am in the minortiy on this one.

Just do not want to see Wrigley get a jumbotron, automatic scorboard, super premium delux seats, tvs, waiters, exotic egg salad, real bull pens, sinage above the ivey, etc.

The place is awesome because it is simple and is one big party win or lose.

Just want to see Ricketts leave things a lone for a little bit and still wish Cuban was the owner.

This is my thought exactly. The Cubs don't fill Wrigley because they put out a great product. The Cubs fill Wrigley because it is a destination. They go because of the "bleacher bum" mentality. They go because their Dad took them there when they were little. They go for the general nostalgia of old world baseball. You put the Cubs in a new stadium in the 'burbs they lose a lot.

That's not to say the legions of lifelong Cubs fans would stop going, but I think a lot of a typical crowd goes just to be in the stadium, look at the ivy, heckle a few players, and have some Old Style.

I think you can find a happy medium. I don't think you want to make the stadium look like something out of NASCAR, but last time I was there I was really struck by the lack of box seating. I can't imagine how much money they are losing out of not having a generous grouping of box seats to sell/rent to some of the big companies in Chicago. I think they can modernize things to take advantage of the Cubs popularity without completely selling out the team.

So did you really want to see the Cubs add salary this year and continue the same crap they've been doing for far too long?

I think the main issue with this article is the source. The Huffington Post is the most far left journalism on the face of the earth today. This article is no where balanced and does not truly paint the issue. Look at it from a neutral stance and you will see the major bias throughout the article.

Getting your news from the Huffington Post is like reading basic party lines from the DNC and its uber liberal lunatic fringe.

Did you even read the article? Im assuming you didn't. Or if you did you don't have very good reading comprehension.

The Cubs probably have the 3rd largest fan base in MLB...If there are teams out there that can make money off there new, modern stadiums, the Cubs are most defiantly one of them.
